I don't understand the search function. If I type in a phrase like "strings for f512" the results are for post involving strings and others for f512’s. How do you phrase it so they will pick up both? This is the most frustrating search function. I have tried quotes, and usually I get no results.

Neither do I. If I am motivated enough I go to Google and try and remember the trick to get Google to only search one site, this one.

I know the search is sensitive to the number of characters (needs at least 3?) and that common words, punctuation and digits may or may not be viewed as valid. So I consider myself very lucky if I get anything usable when looking for a specific model.

There are a couple folks who have figured it out. Maybe they will be enticed to comment?

I think the search has to be MORE than 3 characters. On the old board, you could search for a model number by leaving out the dash (ie: D25, not D-25). The current search function returns D25 as too short. You CAN search for DV72... of most 12 string models (their model #s are more than 3 characters).

You might try strings AND F512... but I don't think that is any better.

VBulletin is downright notorious for having a terrible search feature. Better to use a site search using google.

The following is a sample of what I would enter in the Goggle search engine to search this site for info on a F-612:

F-612 site:letstalkguild.com

Correct, but Google only returns results if they are posted in public forum parts. Anything in the various LTG private forums will not be shown on Google. So you need to use "Advanced search" and sort results by date, but as SoulMusic found out it will give you both results for "strings" and "F512" and not in a way where only posts with both "F-512" and "strings" show up. And yes, anything with 3 letters or less is too short, so searching for a D35 is impossible as D-35 is not recognized with the hyphen either...

It's frustrating a bit, but a *lot* better than the old software. Trust me.

I wonder if the site admin knows any tricks... I'll point him to this thread in the moderator section.
