Doubtless, it will be a great cruise. But, I don't see many "legends".

Well, I recognized 14 names immediately from my misspent youth but "legend" is certainly a very subjective term

You're kidding right? :D That's why they go, to "mingle" as many of the passengers as they can. They're just picking up where they left off 20 or 30 years ago. For most of them it's their twilight years so they gotta get it while they can!

Actually, I wasn't kidding. From what I have read about themed cruises where there is "talent" (musicians, artists, speakers, whatever) on board it is not always reasonable to assume that the talent will be "accessible". I've read about cruises where the talent arrived by helicopter, performed and then left. At the other extreme has been cases where the talent ate with the passengers and shared the public spaces. It makes sense that an aging rock and roller at the end of a career would want to mingle with fans but that is not an assumption I would make if it were the reason I booked a cruise.

I can't swim 10 miles. I'm at the bottom of the food chain. I've seen crew members abandon passengers and the ship when it was on fire. As much as it sounds "cool" I have to say...........I can't fly either.

I've had an aging rock & roller TRY to "mingle" with me recently.

I took it as a compliment, but had to respectfully decline. Not my thing (Not that there's anything wrong with that).

I love LA.

Wow,
I'm going to be very interested in getting that report. The bands that are listed are actually quite a wish list of bands to see.

We had a little incident a while back that went like this: The "Guess Who" were playing at a local college, after Burton Cummings had already gone on to a solo career. We paid to see them, and were surprised to find out that we could not identify any of the band members that had ever played with the original band. It seemed to be a made up band that sounded something like the actual Guess Who. But between songs they stated that it was "great to be here from Canada", so at least they were actually from where the Guess Who came from.

But we were in a good mood that night and laughed it off.

I see that Paul Rodgers is listed for the cruise, so its a good chance that it will not be a stand-in, and that you will actually get the real Paul Rodgers.

This kind of thing happens often. Basically some entity owns the name to the original band and the associated rights. Musicians are then hired to play in the band which may or may not include any "founding" members.

Two of the three surviving members of The Doors were legally prohibited from performing under the name "The Doors". I seem to recall a fight over the name Creedence Clearwater Revival which is why the band on the cruise is Creedence Clearwater Revisited. The high profile cases are where an original musician can't use the original name although the opposite often happens. This isn't a new thing. Some of the swing era big bands had similar troubles. The Tommy Dorsey Band and Glenn Miller Orchestra are still touring long after the namesake is dead and most of the original members are dead or retired.

Well we got back the other day and we had a great time. Last year they had ZZ Top, Johnny Winter and Edgar Winter so with this years line up was not a legendary as last year to me but as some have said legendary is subjective. I was plesantly suprised to find I know most of Paul Rodger's songs. I didn't know he was in Free and Badfinger among other bands. He was great. Marshall Tucker (whats left of them was really good same as Artimus Pile Band (whats left of Lenard Skinard). Backman Turner was really fantastic but I think the real sleeper group was Bobby Keys with an all star band The Suffering Bastards ( he never introduced the band with there real names but I know most of them from other groups). I am not a big Forigner fan like the wife but they did a great acoustic show along with 2 electric shows all with the orignial members who have not played together for about 20 years. Devon Allman with the Royal Sothern Brotherhood was also really good. The performers were all over the ship and most had meet and greets if that was your think. I did meet and talk with Bobby Keys and his band, very nice guys. I met Turner in the elevator and had a nice conversation with him. Two of the guys from Marshal Tucker remembered me from last year and we all talked several times. I also met Pat Travers in the Casino but didn't know who he was, also a nice guy. There were several others I met and didn't know who they were but I spent a lot of time in the bars in the 1980's. Being as I am 55 with long hair and beard, and I wear my Stetson hat with a silver and gold ram skull I was mistaken as a band member several times. I got a couple kisses and hugs from the girls but stopped at signing any autographs. Marshal Tucker had a mass jam sesson one night that was great too. I was up till 3:00-4:00 every night. We saw 35 of the 60 some shows so there was something for everyone and unknown music (to me any way) around every corner.
The main thing was we had a great time and I got a chance to see bands I would never have seen. The wife is/was happy and when the wife is happy everyone is happy.
Now today is a NGD for me, but that is another story.
Thanks John
