Just stumbled on him playing a live gig with a few friends on FB. Love this guy, always have. Good tunes and a great sense of humor. Sure wish I could get a chance to see him live sometime. My kinda tunes.

REK on The Front Porch song he wrote with Lyle Lovett..

"We'd always look forward to Sundays," Keen recounted in the The Front Porch Song, which appeared on his 1988 live album. "We'd crawl out 11:30 Sunday morning in our underwear, amongst four or five hundred empty beer cans, strap on a banjo and guitar and wait for the Presbyterians . . . sing 'em a little Gospel music . . . give 'em something to talk about on their way to Luby's."

You'd understand if you ever lived in Texas and ate at Lucy's on Sundays.

My band opened for Mr. Keen a few years ago, to kick off a charity drive. He was nice, the Road Manager was nice, the band was nice.

Robert's band asked our drummer if he needed/wanted to borrow their kit since the stage was already very tight with their equipment (he did).
They gave our sound man time to get a really good mix, too, which never happens.

Oh, Robert signed a long, bitchin' autograph over two pages of note-pad, for a friend of mine who couldn't make the gig.

The autograph mimicked one of his most popular songs and said,

'Dear David, the Road Goes On and On................................................................................................................................... .....................................................................................................................................................................................Oh, You Know!'
And by the way, every dot that you see above was a dot that Mr. Keen put on the autograph himself. It was very creative. I think my buddy wound up framing it at his House.

To top it all off, we sounded Great and the Crowd was very receptive to what we played. After our set, I went to grab some Mexican Food
at the back of a long line of diners (this is Central Texas). A lovely young lady from the 600 some-odd-strong audience came up to me, took the plate out of my hands and waved an opening in the crowd. Lo and Behold, the other people in line parted like the Red Sea for Moses and I had my supper dished out to me, with a glass of ice tea, in about 45 seconds!

It's good to be the King, Ain't it?
