Third time's the charm!

When you make poor decisions in your life, unfortunately, you get poor results. That applies to everyone, rich or poor. That is a rule of life!
Not to be a mean spirited and offend "thin skins", but would you be more surprised if she lived to 80 or died at 48? I think we know the answer.
Sorry, I have absolute no empathy for someone who spent probably tens of millions of dollars on drugs and millions more for treatment, when there are so many people that really need, through no fault of their own. For her sake, I hope she found peace.Tom C.

No thin skin here Tom. Only human dignity when facing another human being's demise, whom had an impact (like it or not) on the Music world, to which I think we're all a part here....The rest is politics or judgmental opinions, and we know where that belongs, or rather does not belong.
If political opinions belonged here, I would say something like that:
And yes, I think we all agree Whitney made poor decisions and had the wrong entourage (as I pointed out in my first post), but going all fundamentalist on her after her death reminds me too much of what's wrong with a segment of the "faith based" population, like this clown calling himself a man of God and standing at an American soldier's funeral with signs claiming that God (rather his version of God) doesn't like the kind of person the deceased was because of his sexual orientation.... What a heart warming gesture for the kid's parents. Not to mention that the kid in question died, to allow this sub jerk to stand there with his moronic sign up in the air.

Done Frono.

What a talent, what a waste. As a recovering person, all I can say is "There but for the grace of God, go I." Seriously, I think God knew what I would do with lots of money earlier in my life and thus didn't allow me that luxury.

Same here dreadnut. I'm lucky to have made it to 52 without any money!

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

There's more to this poem but well.............ya know.

Personally, I think the world's a bit confused over whom they should idolize. An American soldier died in Afghanistan on Saturday as well. Whitney was a great singer; as some proclaim. I pray for her soul. However, this may sound heartless, but I find a week's worth of media coverage of her death disgraceful and embarrassing to say the least. And so I'm sorry "the least" is all I can say.

Don't get me started on people's priorities (hence media's focus)....
If the only thing in life you can do well is throwing a ball, you're a multi milionaire, and I bet you it's not a week of coverage you'll get after you're gone, but two!
Our society doesn't recognize talent, or honor, only monetary value. And that's not an opinion, it's a fact.
And folks wanna see people play ball, above anything else.
Just start a thread right here on the last superbowl or baseball crap, and count the pages it'll generate...

Are you not agreeing with that? (just curious)

I remember watching Bodyguard a lot when I was a kid with my folks and grandparents when they all came for family get-togethers/holidays. Haven't seen in it in a while. She sure had a great voice, and I think she acted really good opposite Kevin Costner.

I also remember she did a duet with George Michael and she was just blowing him out of the water with the raw power of her voice.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking that more and more of the idols of my youth (or popular singers/actors) die every year and that there is no considerable talent to step in for those who passed. It's even weirder with me living in Russia and all that. When the proverbial Iron Curtain was raised Western media just came pouring in. So it's almost as if I'm borrowing music/movie icons from Baby Boomers because there are almost none who I can relate to in a modern scene.

I guess it's nostalgia. The second half of the 20th century gave us enormous amount of talented people as I get older.

May you rest in peace, Whitney.
