I woke up to this awful news on the radio this morning. This is the most wildland firefighters lost at one time since the 1930's. Having been through the latest version of the annual safety training just about a month ago, safe areas and escape routes are always on everyone's minds. These 'Hotshot' guys are several notches above the average Type II crew, so for them to get overtaken goes to show how rapidly conditions can change. Those aluminized shelters are the best produced so far, but even under the best conditions you may come out with severe burns. Tragic, terrible. Please remember these families in your thoughts and prayers.
