Hi podplanet! This is our stickied Guild amp thread. As you can see, your amp is right up at the top. If I remember correctly, Jay Pilsner wrote an article on the very same amp. Looking at the back of your amp, it looks very similar to the Model 40, with the split chassis. What is the tube lineup? 2- 12ax7's(preamp tubes), a 12ab5(power tube) and a 12x4(rectifier tube).

That's a very clean amp there! More pics would be appreciated, especially if you could take the back off.

Found my old copy of 20th Century Guitar with Jays article on the Masteramp. In the article, he suggests that it dates from 60-61. Probably the easiest way to date it is to post the numbers from the speaker, transformers and the cylindrical cap-cap. Cool amp!

Why did you bump this 12 year old thread with just pictures?

I know this is a very old post but I wanted to add pictures of my amp that add greater detailed photos for more documentation. One interesting piece of the puzzle to add is that my amp has a Webcor tag in it. Could that mean Webcor made these amps for Guild? Webcor made radio's and record players among other things. The amp tubes seem to be more aligned with this type of equipment than normal amp circuits.

Did anyone ever figure out the model number? The string says it had two 12AX7 tubes mine only has one all else is the same. I think my amp is probably from 1957-59.

Thanks. Adding context with a picture dump is always a good idea.

Your brain works faster than mine. Once I figured out how to upload the photos I had to then figure out how to add a comment.

The other difference is the amp above has a "power on" light. Don't know if it was added or came that way. Would be nice to see if the are any period ads of this amp.

That is another version of the Model 40T. 12au7 for the trem, 12ax7 for signal, and 12ab5 for the power tube. It's the partially surplus version, electronically. There was a magazine article on it, but I can't remember who wrote it. He was the guy who hated the forum because we were all cheap. @twocorgis , do you remember his name?

Jay Pilzer, that was the feller's name.

And , no, I don't think Webcor made these. Personal opinion is that they were assembled by Guild using surplus power chassis, and the top was fabricated by Guild. This particular one looks like it has a model 60-sized cabinet that was adapted for the smaller speaker and chassis. What size is the cab?
