So, I can't sleep. If I get 3 to 4 hours each night I consider myself lucky. All the Gonga, Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio doesn't help. But, I'm still sucking in air so no bitches here.

One of the side bemefits is having bunches of time to spend with my guitars (and I do) Here's what I've discovered. I've owned a mega mount of Gibson, Martin and Taylor guitars along with a lot of really good imports. But, my heart is with Guild. To my ear, they offer the best sound/tone and at a price point that is far better than most other brands.

For Dreadnaught Mahogany (man I miss Marc=Dreadnut) the D 40 is the King IMHO. I have a NH D 40C which is Primo, (along with an Oxnard D 40T and D 40T Deluxe) that may be the finest Dreads on the market today. I just love the model. I absolutely love these guitars.

For Dreadnaught RW my hands down favorite is the D 50. I like it better than the D 55 or any of the DV series guitars

For Jumbos, the F 50/F 50R are the winners by a huge margin. Better (to my ear) than the Gibson SJ 200 Std or any other brand of Jumbo I've ever played. I have way too many of them but what the hell, I Iove 'em.

For smaller bodied guitar the F 30 is my guitar of choice. I have a Spruce/Mahogany (in transit), a 60th Anniv. all KOA, a vinatge F 30R. a Custom Shop F 30 RLS and a Custom Shop F 30 Cocobolo, all exceptional.

Anyway, just rambling but I really love the Brand and hope it can stay around for years to come.

Great report Richard. I wish I could play some of those larger full sounding guitars. Those are certainly the kings and queens of Guild.

As for insomnia I’ve suffered from it for a long time. My nightly sleep-aid cocktail consists or OTC doxylamine succinate, Melatonin, and non-narcotic CBG and/or THC-9. Also two different sound machines at a high and low frequency. Still sometimes restless due to arthritic shoulders but I can get a halfway decent 7-8 hours often. I find alcohol late at night if more than one drink does not help at all.

Fine guitars every one! I hope you get the sleep thing worked out. I only get an hour or two more than you are and it can be a rough haul.

Well, I'm glad I read this thread. Interesting stuff, Richard!

When I first saw the title, I thought it was "Incontinent Old Man" and I came close to hitting the "ignore" button!

As I'm reading this, I'm realizing that some of the best guitars Guild has ever made have passed through your hands. For me, that makes a post like this incredibly informative.

It also makes me think that we are party to some insider knowledge that the rest of the world doesn't have.

Have you noticed a difference after the weight loss and increased exercise?
Are far as getting a good night's sleep?

Well I've always like to sleep a lot. In the past I just didn't make the time for it! I was quite the night owl and enjoyed staying up until the wee hours of the morning. When I started the weight loss conquest, I read about how much sleep hours can affect weight loss. That seemed like a easy way to help lose weight so i started going to bed earlier to get more hour of sleep in every night. As yes, getting in some physical exercise certainly doesn't hurt getting to sleep at night! It's all tied in together!

You can't sleep right if you don't work. That said, I don't sleep right anyway. Cat climbs the window screen @ 1:30 am, gotta go downstairs let her in (sleeps all day on the bed and if you don't let her in she'll yowl loudly and climb the screen door, there's no denying her), then she wants back out @ 4:40 am and I'm up, making coffee, hanging out, enjoying the quiet. No phones, no boss, just quiet.

So by 4pm I'm seriously in need of a nap, and with the cat on the bed it's easy, especially if I play guitar for 10 minutes, zonk!

But I usually skip the nap, and by 7pm I'm tired and ready to go to bed, by 9pm I'm delirious and almost too tired to sleep.

Rinse and repeat.

Cat wanted out this time @ 1:30am, then back in @ 4:40. I can only sleep all night if she spends all night out, which gives me terrible anxiety so I can't sleep anyway.

I struggled with poor sleep since 2018, till recently. Not sure what changed. But the past few nights, I have not woken up at 2:30 or 3 am.

Years ago when living a lot wilder with GF 17 years younger, I was having trouble sleeping at night.

I asked my doc about it, and he said "Are you having nightcaps?" and I said yes, and he said don't, and I didn't, and it fixed it.

I've never realized I was happy to be awake, it's usually wtf's wrong with my body now, mystery pains, creak, creak , crack. Thank God for coffee.

Random FYI, I never drank coffee. Weird, I know. Although I love mocha chip ice cream!
