Been looking for a dreadnought and wanted something comprised of solid woods.
I was close to buying a J-45 when I heard the D-40. Wow!

listened to a few other comparison and review videos and am excited to receive it and play it.

Any advice on the best strings for it?

It’s a late 2010 model in antique sunburst.
Thanks.

Congrats. Please post pictures as soon as practical. I love a good sunburst. I'm sure you will find the Guild a reliable and capable musical partner.

As for strings, I like the D'Addario j116 Phos. Bronze. Of course, it doesn't hurt to play the field when it comes to strings.

Right on, that makes for the tip!

Welcome to LTG and congratulations on your D40. Lots of love and respect for your guitar. My personal preference, for strings on all my acoustics, is the D'Addario EJ16 also.

Welcome to LTG and congrats! The D'Addario PBs are a great starting point. From there, try some other brands like DR and John Pearse. Also, try different types like 80/20 bronze and monel. Your ears will tell you which strings sound best for the music you play. Have fun!!

Congrats . . . I believe Guild's New Hartford factory would have originally strung that guitar with D'Addario EXP16 strings (coated, light-gauge, phosphor bronze).

D'A EJ16 as recommended above would be the uncoated equivalent. Either might be a good starting point, and then follow your ears if you want something that sounds different.

Ha! I always wanted a J45. I was about ready to pick up a new J15 when they first came out. They were getting stellar reviews. Then a New Hartford-built F50R popped up on reverb. Seller accepted my offer. As you say: It was a big Wow! I don't GAS for a J45 anymore. Major congrats on your New Hartford D40! And welcome to LTG!

A company with ties to Guild, DR, makes excellent strings. Just tried them on acoustic and electric and they are really really good.

Otherwise I'm a GHS fan, nice folk strings also.

John Pearses were pretty good too, some nice "slightly Light" sets.

Welcome, AiJ. A great guitar!

I use medium lights (.12s) because they sound good without putting a lot of stress on the bridge and top — good for the long haul. They also bring out the signature Guild growly twang that's made me such a fan.

I do a lot of string bending, which is murder on wound G's, so I also swap out the set's G string for something heavier — .26s or .28s — so that they last longer. No sense changing a whole set for one dead string.

And remember: your LTG initiation isn't complete until you post a picture.
