Such sad news, as we lose a music icon. way too young.

His performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" during the George Harrison tribune in 2004 could now be viewed as a tribute to just a small facet of his incredible talents -- his guitar playing.

This guy was a really great player. Loved to listen to what he could do on the guitar. Been by his place (just passed by to see) a couple times. My sister and her husband live in Minneapolis. A lot of great ones leaving too early.

This year completely sucks for Rock Icons. 57 is way too young to go. I read that after his concert in Atlanta last week his personal plane had to make an unexpected landing to treat some severe Flu Like symptoms that he was having. Now almost a week later he is gone. Always respected him as an Artist and a Musician. Truly a talented individual whose songs and performances have touched so many, influenced so much, and transcended time. What another Huge Loss. Rest In Peace Prince, you will be immensely missed. There is a hole in the world today that will never be fully filled again. With every one in the music industry that has passed in the last six months there must be one hell of a party in Heaven tonight.

He was ill, had problems no one knew about. Kept his health a secret like Bowie did. RIP

When someone posted this on FB earlier this morning I thought, "There's no way this can be true!" Unfortunately, it is. Just so sad.....

Fans have begun to leave floors below Prince's star on the exterior wall of First Avenue in Minneapolis, where scenes from "Purple Rain" were filmed (photo by Elizabeth Flores, Star Tribune).

Yow, what a shock! Just a few days ago I saw a pic of Prince riding his bicycle in Minneapolis after having been discharged from the hospital. He played a show that same night.

Fine songwriter as well as an absurdly fine guitarist…

It is said he only played this gig because he was left off of a list (Rolling Stone?) of the 100 greatest guitar players the week before

What a loss! Man, I remember that in the late 80s and early 90s, pop music and fashion culture was completely dominated by Prince and Madonna. He was such a gifted composer and musician. And so funky!

Just watched his Super Bowl halftime show. In a pouring, wind-driven tropical rainstorm in Miami.

He could have played it safe and just gotten through it, and no one would have blamed him. But instead, he opened up a huge can of searing guitar whoop-*** on 100,000 people. An amazing performance, during which I was surprise to find myself wiping tears from my eyes.

I was just Watching the NFL Network and they were showing parts of the Superbowl Halftime show. Then they broke away from it and said, "Here is a little Gem from the pre Superbowl Press conference with Prince and his band". Prince had his entire band on stage with their instruments and he was standing Center Stage in front of the mic. The press was supposed to have 15 minutes to ask Prince what he thought about playing the halftime show. Needless to say Prince steps forward with his telecaster strapped on and says softly, "Ok, I would like to take this time to answer any questions anyone has." As soon as the first reporter started trying to ask a question he fired off his Tele and the band joined in with a little smirk on his face. Needless to say he played the Whole 15 minutes straight through doing different songs and treated the press to a Concert instead of an interview all while having that little smirk on his face. Classic Prince. In his passing his friends have spoken about everything he did behind the scenes for so many without wanting his name out there. Truly a Champion for Artist's rights and all people in need everywhere. He always did things his way!

Consummate pro entertainer and great song writer and musician. Caught his show a few times over the years and always amazed at the consistent high quality.

Both male and female pop stars die 25 years sooner than average...not a huge surprise but this Washington Post link has a couple of graphs that really tell the story:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-of-pop-stars-die-in-their-mid-50s/?tid=a_inl

For them, their 50's are the most likely time they'll die. Even advances in medicine over the last 50 years have only raised their life expectancy a few years.
