If you are ever anywhere near or on water (I am constantly, at work working on a marina pier, or at the beach, or boating/kayaking) for water resistant, the JBL "pill" speakers are just fine. And the newer ones, you can pair 2 of them for true stereo speration. As for 100% waterPROOF!! I would highly recommend the Altec Lansing ones. They sound fantastic, you can dunk them under water, they float, you can smash a cinder block on it and it shakes it off like a mosquito!! I have a few of them in various sizes/models. The bigger ones have stereo pairing, wireless phone charging, a USB port for wired charging. The rechargeable batteries last very long! My current big one I've had for 7-8 yrs already. (And by big, I mean no bigger than a 24 oz bottle) It's been through hell. Has a rusty speaker grill from years of being around/in brackish/salt water. Still works like the day I got it. I'm confident I could toss it out of a 3rd floor window onto a sidewalk, and nothing would happen to it. Can't say the same for any of the other brands. In my honest opinion, they all sound comparable....and I have friends w/ JBL, Bose, Harmon Cardon, Marshall....and while they are all nice, for my purposes, I'd take the Altecs over all if them just for ruggedness/durability/rainproof. If I need to worry about it getting sand in it, getting wet, is accidentally knocked off a table, or it needs it's own padded carrying case....then what's the point of being portable/wireless?

After making due with bad sound on a few smaller bluetooth speakers of different brands over time, I upgrated to the Bose Revolve+ Soundlink last year. It sounds great for what it is, gets loud enough for outdoor use, battery lasts a good long time. I'm happy. I found a refurbished one from Bose on Ebay for a discounted rate.

Think I need a trip to Second Best Buy to eyeball different models.

My son has had a JBL for quite a while and loves it. It sounds surprisingly good. He takes it everywhere with him, including camping, and it seems to hold up pretty well.

That's all I got.

I have a JBL Charge 3 for three years now. It has been through several camping holidays, dropped on the floor a couple of times, still works fine. Battery life is ok, maybe 8 hours. Sound quality is so so, but it's ok. Just don't expect high end 🙂

We've got a DOSS (a what?) thingy, which sounds ok . I was offered this for my birthday ,I never could use it, it requires a newer telephone than mine, and probably a newer user. There's one small knob I can figure what to do with, "on/off", then, we've got these 4 ancient-Egyptian pictograms on one side, and I feel like one of those apes in 2001 when they find the Monolith. I have absolutely no sympathy for this device,I look at it with superstitious fear , I avoid being in the vicinity of it without my garlic braid. I know the damn thing is smarter than me ! My lady uses it all the time, I suspect she's an Alien....

It's tiny as I was looking for portabilaty. I probably should have gone a little larger. It sounds fine out on the porch.

I am always amazed at the sound Bose can get out of a small package. I have an old Soundlink system and I'm convinced that Bose captured millions of high fidelity sound fairies and stuffed them in a plastic case.

Long time Bose devotee. Quality is worth the money to me. I have 2 Bluetooth speakers (mini and color 2) and top of the line nc headphones.

Bose is a marketing company more than an high-end audio company. my kids have JBLs but we honestly got them because of the cool lights. Sounds about as good as something that size can sound.

Another vote for the Bose SoundLink revolve. My dad heard it for the first time yesterday and was very impressed.

Is that what you have?

I've had a wave radio for years, my work bench radio now, it's still ticking and irritating the neighbors!

Yes, I have the SoundLink Revolve. I also have a much smaller Sony SRS something that does the job, but the Revolve is a much better sounding unit.

My DOSS SoundBox Touch Portable was a pain in the.....

"The built-in energy-saving function automatically switches off the DOSS SoundBox after 15 minutes of inactivity. This function can be deactivated with a firmware update."

Unfortunately, it didn't understand that listening to music was an "activity" so it kept turning itself off. Dumb!

Not sure if any of the following is applicable at this time but when I bought it a few years ago:

1. I needed to show proof of purchase and set up an account to get the firmware update.

2. It could only be done via micro SD card (of 32GB or less capacity). All my SD cards were up in the 512GB range so I had to go out and search for a new micro SD 32GB, which hardly anyone carried anymore. I had to go to a few stores to find one. Dumb!

I made it to the local Walmart where they had a demo display of most major brands and all their models. Tried JBL, Sony, Anker, Altec and Bose.

The Bose was the winner for me, a Soundlink Revolve+ II. More pricey than the others, but I've been saving up from my paper route!
