So, it's taken about two weeks to get everything done and fixed and to the point where I finish paying them (to the tune of $5K) but the pool is replastered and the light is fixed and .... once it's spring and summer I'll be really glad about this!! Right now it's 35 degrees on the way down to 29 degrees. So I'll not be enjoying this except for just LOOKING at it for now.

Smooth and cool.....

That's wicked nice, Tom. Congrats on the re-finish. Unlike a guitar, I'm sure it's worth more now! :) How old was the pool?

I've gotta' send you some demo pictures of the pool I buried last year. I might've kept the pool going if I'd known how incredibly solidly it was built (in '77). Refin cost was prohibitive to me though. Now I have a back yard. :)

Charlie, this pool was built in 77 a year after the house was built!!! Same year as your pool, how funny is that? That it has made it this far with the original plaster (which was pretty beat up) is a testament to it's quality. A pool is definitely an additional expense, but honestly the spring, summer and early fall are more bearable here because of it. I spend a LOT of time in that pool. It's a great design with those three circles. It's also TEN FEET DEEP in the deep end!! They don't even build pools that deep anymore. It would cost a FORTUNE these days!

I'm very pleased..... would love to jump in it but.... it was 25 degrees this morning. I think I can wait.....

Tom, this *could've* been you. :D This demo work was something to behold. The walls of the pool were ridiculoustly thick, rebar-enforced gunite. Just sick! While I'm happy to have a back yard now, we definitely got our share of enjoyment out of the pool.

HOLY $HIT!! What a demo job!! I'm gonna guess that you had some serious trouble with leaves and debris in the pool at certain times of the year? I've found that trees and pools are a bad combo. I have three huge fir trees and 10 palm trees in the backyard around the pool. Not my favorite thing.....

Thanks for posting those pics, Charlie. What a project!! And now.... no more pool maintenance!!

Yeah, it was something, Tom.

I imagine a pool is pretty much a necessity in LV. Where I live, we got maybe 3 - 4 months tops where we'd actually use it. But, like I said, we got our enjoyment out of the thing for many years.

Maintenance wasn't really too bad until it was... I never had a problem keeping up with leaves, algae, etc. Just an hour or so on weekends was enough. But, my electrical connections from my house to the equipment started glitching out which triggered the need to do a major renovation... just couldn't justify it.

Yours looks great, by the way. Definitely something to look forward to!

Thanks. I know what you mean, though. The damn pool light just to replace and install was close to $400. Then of course the wiring wasn't cooperating and they couldn't fish the new wires in as there was some hang-up somewhere, which necessitated chopping a section of the Cool-Deck out and digging down to the conduit, then spicing and repairing that and THEN pulling the new lines, pouring some concrete to replace the chopped section and then a new switch. Just the light alone ended up costing me over $600. Sheesh.

It was worth the investment. I figure the next time this pool needs major renovations I'll be dead. At least, that's the plan.....

The three circles sort of look ... Mickey Mouse to me !

:)

I have a large above ground pool, and here in the High Desert of Southern California. It eats the chlorine as fast as I can put it in, I think. The really annoying part is keeping it warm. No built in heater. The solar covers get blown around in the wind and they only heat the first few inches. The sun eats THOSE up too and they only last a few years at best.

We have a large saltwater bay, three large lakes and numerous smaller bodies of water, along with mountain rivers and streams, all within walking/biking range but the water's too darned cold for most of us....even in summertime!

For Seinfeld fans, the shrinkage factor is very high around here!

Awe come on Tom, crank up the heater man! Or better yet, go out and buy one of them electric sauna kits, crank that baby up to 150 and then run outside and do a cannonball.

That's most exciting when the water temp's right around 35-40 degrees F    and the air temp is around 45. :)

Try and stay warm and I hope it's not to cold for you down there :p

Terry, I realize my pissin' and moaning about the cold will fall on deaf ears based on temps in other parts of the country. Besides it was up to 32 this morning and is all the way up to 39 today so far!! So we're having a warming trend. For a silly, Southern California boy like me..... that's COLD!

My pool heater does a pretty good job in spring and summer, but it would be DAYS of running before the water got to any temperature that a cannonball would be possible for ME!! If it's okay with you, I'll just LOOK and DREAM of a future time when I can enjoy the smooth and new plaster......

Couldn't resist givin' you some razzberries Tom. :p  . Just got back from enjoying the BIG pool outside my door. Took a lap around my bay on the snowshoes. We topped out at about 12 degrees today and that's not bad.

  Y'all are too funny!! Terry I ran into a lady having a late lunch with her daughter that was visiting from Northern MN today.... we were bitchin' about the weather being cold. She said it was minus 9 the other day and had since warmed up to the 12 degrees you're talking about today!! It's 40 degrees here at 8 pm in the evening.... I really can't complain!!

But I'm gonna anyway.....

Does the BIG pool outside your door have a light in it?

Probably not....

Dropped a lantern over the side of my boat once, and I'm sure it's still down there.

By the way, you have an awesome pool Tom, and you're very lucky to live where you do. :)
