The correct decision in my humble opinion.

West

Thanks guy`s for the response`s. I think I already knew that the other pickguard was a move too far, and the great majority of replies have only confirmed that. The pickguard is going in the drawer Ralph!

I see the light.

Did I see somewhere is this thread that you wanted to sell this JV-52 to a good home to a Guild lover ? Single Pickguard is ok, double pickguard, that'd be ok, no pickguard, that's fine.... (maybe you'd be interested in 1 of those great deals on the super Guild Orpheums on ebay!) :eek-new:

I think that may be a bit of wishful thinking there Billymo! Those Orpheum super Jumbo`s are very nice, but to be honest, I didn't notice much difference between one of those and a Gibson 1941 SJ-100, when I got the chance to try them, and I already own a very nice 94 J-100 Xtra (Hog)

BTW, I'm the guy with the JV72. While it sounds fabulous, it's not in nearly as nice shape as yours. Congrats!

That is one very nice JV-72 you have Wiley. I appreciate the story behind you getting it, and the hard work that`s gone in to bringing it up to scratch.

You, I and Jason (jcwu) appear to be in a very exclusive club, with regards to the JV models. Where are the other 48 Guitars!

Hello Frenchie,

I've been wondering the same thing! Mine is the only JV72 I've ever heard tell of in my 10 years or so of buying and selling Guilds. Where are the others? In attics, basements, under beds?

It's amazing I even got mine considering everything it went through on its way to me -- one crazy unlikely scenario after another!

It's been a year or so since I had it repaired and it sounds absolutely splendid. It's not my most played Guild, but I'm always impressed when I pick it up. I have several Guild jumbos, including an F50 and an F50R, and this has its own distinct sound unlike any of the others, with overtones galore.

Gonna go get it out of its case right now!

There was another JV52 for sale around these neck of woods (Santa Cruz), had been on Craigslist for a while. Started at $1400, I think, eventually dropped down to $1100. I so wanted to just get it, to say I own TWO JV52s, but.... well, like always, the heart is willing but the wallet is weak.

I had a Guild D40 from 1973 (cause that year haunts me), the burst almost purple and double pg. It was a wreck. I actually posted a pic of it on the LTG back in 2007, would have been under the callname "woodruff". I would love to find that pic and reshare with the LTG as it is quite a humorous Guild. Nearly clown guitar, and yet, I wish I had it back :)

I called the company and ordered the second guard from them direct.
If you get the guard from Guild, it will already have a self adhesive back, ready to use on it.
Bear in mind my second 'guard was from Guild.
The thing is, they're basically just lefty pickguards, and I don't think they were made at the same time as the guitars.
Mine at least was definitely from a different batch of "tortoise".
Probably just pulled one from parts inventory when they put a Havens in its case.
Wouldn't be an issue with black ones.

My F-50 has double pickguard. AFAIK, came that way from the factory. It still didn't prevent one (or both) of the abusive rock 'n' rollers who owned it before me from chewing up the top under the strings, not to mention what they did to the top binding. Didn't affect the sound, though, so I got it for less than the going price at the time.

Yeah, that's correct, hardly anybody owns these, so I guess I'd be willing to buy 1 of your JV-52s, even though almost nobody's ever heard of it.

Came across this post almost by accident, but had to add a comment as I own a JV 52 with the serial 0021, which technically makes it the next youngest sibling of Frenchie's. So, in answer to your question, that makes only 47 more JV's to be tracked down. Mine resides in sunny old England, which may or may not be the furthest this particularly rare breed has travelled.

BTW, I'm also glad you didn't go for the second pick guard - one of the main reasons I've always loved mine is because I always felt it strikes the perfect blend between class and simplicity, thumbing its nose at gaudy ostentation and keeping a dignified calm until played.

Maybe it's time to seek out all the JV owners and get a gallery of this beautiful instrument started.

Hi Leftback, and welcome to the forum. I`m in North Wales, 20 miles north west of Chester, so not a million miles away from you.

I was beginning to think there were no other owners coming forward.

How long have you had yours? what do you think of it, compared to other guitars?

and please post some pic`s, if poss.

Steve.
