The meaning of Christmas has been almost completely lost. After watching this I want to bleach my eyes out.

This in a nutshell is why you'll never find me in a Walmart. That woman with the blue shirt's butt crack just put it over the top, didn't it?

It's another reason why Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. Retail America hasn't figured out a way to commercialize it, and totally destroy the spirit of the day. Well, yet, anyway.

I like the report of the lady who pepper sprayed the crowd to get her X-Box.

Another example of why I live a semi-reclusive lifestyle. I find the behavior typical of most people and utterly disgusting, regardless of the situation. I don't watch the news. I don't read the newspaper. I pick guitar with a few friends and travel on my motorcycle when I need to get away and take a deep breath.

I know there are good people out in the world but I've grown more cynical with age. I'm thankful everyday for climbing out of bed every morning and the life I have. The spirit of the holidays has become a solely personal thing; beyond the media BS and the retail hype which I don't see getting any better in the future.

Peace

Don't get you, Sandy. Isn't the video a complete, self-contained perfect example of commercializing Thanksgiving?

The whole thing is painful to watch, obscene and degrading It calls into question thoughts one might have about inherent nobility in human beings. But then perhaps they're all just having fun, and moralistic judgments should just hold fire.

Sure glad I wasn't there, though.

Well, I think they've finally succeeded in using Thanksgiving to commercialize Christmas. It's been coming for years; Black Friday is nothing new, but it used to be that the Christmas displays in the stores didn't go up until after Thanksgiving. I think what fueled the fire this year was the decision by many retail establishments to open their doors at midnight instead of early on Friday morning.

Some people here were camped out in tents on the sidewalk outside Best Buy since Monday afternoon waiting for the Black Friday sale. The big draw: a 42" HDTV for $200.00  Camped out in front of a store so they can camp out in front of a TV. The gene pool gets shallower and shallower. Get a life, people. Learn to play an instrument or do something else constructive. OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Two days before Thanksgiving, I encountered a Salvation Army bell ringer outside the grocery store. He was ringing his bell and saying "Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas."
Even the SA is jumping the gun.

Around 1975, give or take a year, my then wife wanted to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. Wasn't called black Friday then. Just as insane however.

I prayed that day, Lord, please help me to get home with my sanity intact, and I'll never go shopping the day after Thanksgiving again.
I made it home ok, and I've not been shopping that day since.

I don't get it either, unless they're crazed lemmings!! It's probably mass hypnosis, induced by endless hours staring at the evil one-eyed moving-picture box.

I've never went to black friday. To me, trampling people to death, macing people, walking around some old guy who had a heart attack and is dying, shooting people, beating the crap out of other people, and generally showing disregard for your fellow human beings is not my way of enjoying the holidays. sitting at home with my family and being thankful is enjoying the holidays, which is exactly what I did this year and plan on doing every year to come. no $150 x-box or $200 TV is worth disregarding every moral in my body.

Agreed. I don't watch the news, or read the paper.... I know I'm a bit of an isolationist but, it's keeps my slippery grip on happiness.

PEACE: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. (author unknown)

Doesn't get much better than those two...... Happy Holidays, my friends!

OK just for the sake of stirring up the doody, how about a $55.00 D55?
(Just for the record: NO, it wouldn't motivate me to go jump through any hoops either, but then again, my closet's already full...so I'd make allowances for any of our members for whom that would be a sore temptation.... :D )
