My camping trips in the South-West were usually made in the Fall, right after the Arlington, TX Guitar Show.
My girlfriend would fly into Dallas on Sunday, the last day of the show and the next day we would fly out of Dallas straight to Phoenix or Las Vegas, depending on where we want to go first. First picking up the rental car, then to the thrift store to buy the things we need along the way like pans, cups, utensils and plastic containers for food; we only bring a small tent, two sleeping bags and a Coleman burner. Then a cool box from Walmart, on to the health food store to buy the items for about a week and then straight 'into the great wide open'!
We usually would try to do Lake Powell / Lone Rock beach on Monday. Even though it can be a little colder at night around that time, there can be plenty of people who just go there for the weekend. But right after that you have the entire beach to yourself up till Friday and there are plenty of really cool places nearby to visit during the week.
In this photo you can see the tire tracks of the people who stayed there during the weekend ......
and in the second photo it's still only us just before sundown!
Life can be good! At the end of each trip we would bring all the items back to the thrift store, including this blanket that we bought in a garage sale somewhere along the way.
Sincerely,
Hans Moust
