I know you can turn the guitar around and see that it will then show the light side on the other side, but what if you glue the one side upside down. It wouldn't be book matched but would it match in matching color?

That's what I always wondered, Ralph. Not sure bookmatching is all that important sometimes, unless it's a structural issue, or sound issue.

As Sandy mentioned, I have his former Orpheum Mahogany OM. And the top really is a sight to behold. The luthier who works on my guitars (and who also builds furniture) insists that this is a bookmatched top with an odd cut that resulted in the two-tone effect. He explained it to me at length; I don't recall the details, but I trust his judgment. Funny looking though it is, the guitar does sound magnificent. And it doesn't look this bad from most angles.

My NH F47 almost looks like that too. Sounds great though.

As for the guitar this thread was originally about - you can't judge a guitar's finish on the basis of one digital picture. While I agree the sunburst in that pic is not very attractive, I won't say that guitar looks bad until I've seen it with my own eyes. both my X175's photograph as a pretty horrible "target" burst, but they look great in person.

Definitely not antique burst. Looks almost like a dark iced-tea burst w/a few dashes of Tabasco. Lovely D55 though. Never saw one w/that finish before.

FWIW, that will be a very rare guitar in years to come.
