My apologies for being momentarily unfaithful to our favorite brand on this forum, but I couldn't pass on this old blues box, I just spent the day on the road to go get it (it's added to my signature list for those wondering what it is...):

Nice! I have a '54 LG-2, and it is (clears throat) my favorite acoustic that I own. But the Guild CE-100D wins favorite guitar in general, so it evens out.

Nice old Gibson...bet she sounds incredible after all the miles on her.

You got that right 12er...
What amazes me is how easy she is to play, I was wondering how I would feel on this slim neck, but no issue at all, feels like butter!
I was longing for a small body, I got one! :D

My sister has a mid-60s (?) LGO that belonged to my late brother-in-law. He never played it much and I just know that it's still in the closet where he always kept it.
Would it be too bold to ask if she still has it/wants to get rid of it? Hmmmm.

I ponder, therefore I am,
Joe

Hey Joe,

I wouldn't muck around on that one. Call her immediately !! I've got any number of stories where record collections/ stereo gear has sat around at parents or relatives places, and been disposed of, often because no one thought to ask for it. And it's your sister mate, of couse she want's you to have it !! (unless there's a nephew with first dibs ?)

Guitdude, Did you just pick up that Martin OO-16dbm on eBay? If so you gotta let me know how you like it. It sounded like such a nice little guitar and was local but just couldn't find the scratch in the budget... :(

Cool dude, how do you like that 0016?
I've been staring at a 0018 for a while prior to getting the LG01, but I guess now that I have the LG, I can re-focus on the 0018????
Or do you think wifey is gonna start noticing the house getting smaller and smaller?

So the LG01 is the ladder braced version of the LG2? I had one from the 60's that had a plastic bridge bolted to the top. It sounded like a dud, so I had a luthier replace the plastic bridge with a rosewood one. Improved the sound a bit, but I still never bonded with it so off it went. I also had an L00 at the time and preferred the L00 to LG01. Gibson also made a LGO that was ladder braced and had a mahogany top.

Those small bodied Gibson are really great for fingerpicking the Blues.

....and fingerpicking the blues is 90% of what I do on an acoustic, so bingo! Definitely not a bluegrass or chord strumming guitar.....
It is ladder braced and these LG's came out with a plastic bridge which was a big failure, and the reason why 99.9% of them got it replaced by wood because the plastic cracked and the wood bridge improved the sound as you mentioned.
What was the difference sound wise, between the LG1 and your L00?

Thanks.... she's in great shape for an old lady, some checkering on the top, not visible on the pic, but only adding to the charm if you ask me! :D

Hey Paddlefoot and Bluespicky,

The 0016DBM came from the good folks at Elderly whilst I was (and am still..), trying to put together a deal on an F30. I'd seen one advertised on line at LA Guitars, and it really took my fancy. Unfortunately at that time I had no dough, so had to pass. A couple of months later this one turned up. Sweet little all mahoghany guitar, I'd always wanted a Martin from way's back, slot head, all mahoghany not sapele, nice strumming litlle guitar. I was going to wait til the F30 showed up before I posted pic's, but since that doesn't look like happening anytime soon, if at all, I'll get onto it at the weekend.

Thanks for all the info on the small bodied Gibsons too, I really like J45's and was/am seriously tempted by one of the smaller bodied ones.

Ooops...... I did it again!
Remember the post where I showed my dreads and mentioned leaning towards a 000 next?
Well, look at the signature again......
Now what's wrong with that picture? 2 Gibsons, 2 Martins and 1 Guild? Hmmmm..... Looks like I'm overdue on something....

Are you just a big tease, or what?
How much longer do we have to wait, or is the 66j the one? :?

  ....actually you're right! The 66j makes it 2 for the Guild camp! That evens things out, I feel better now :)
And talking about the 66j, you hould hear the sound of that 000-28 when I play through it! (yes the 000 is equiped with a pick up too...) might as well keep teasin' no?
