I've got an excellent SF III that I picked up used a few years ago. I don't think it was ever played before I got my hands on it. The serial number is AG3015XX. According to all the charts I've seen on-line, production of this model ended several hundred numbers before this one. Anyone have an idea about when this guitar was made and why it doesn't jive with all the published info?

Hello larstusor,

Welcome! All the published serial numbers on the various websites are based on Guild's 'official' serial number list, which is incomplete and has many mistakes and omissions.
Your Starfire III was made during 1998.

Sincerely,

Thank you Hans. I understand that you are the Guru of this forum and I appreciate the prompt response and info. My first six string, acoustic guitar was a Hoboken made Guild D-40 that I bought from a buddy in 1969. The guitar was only a year old, sounded great and he had the jones to get a Martin. That Guild was my go to axe for many years and now is owned and played regularly by my nephew. I gave it to him when he was about the same age as I was when I bought it and he is an active singer/songwriter who is totally stoked with the "vintage" Guild guitar. There will always be a soft place in my heart for Guild guitars.
