New Resonator Day.

So, a friend of mine and I decided to put together a small project to help provide fundraising help for worthy causes like homeless shelters, food banks,, mental health challenges and folks that just need a hand now and then. We live in a pretty depressed area economically and it's a fairly often occurence where someone's home or rental will burn down and they have no fire insurance coverage. Sometimes it comes down to do you want to feed your family or buy insurance to protect your home.

Anyway, my friend plays a nice stand-up bass, some guitar, sings a bit, can play some keyboards and some clarinet. Maybe more but that's what I can remember. I also came across another fella who recently bought a Martin from me and he's a really good guitarist and sings leads/harmonies as well. He's also a Lutheran Pastor so I'll need to try and behave a bit I guess.

So, we're gonna see what we can put together. It should be fun I think. I'll likely handle most of the lead vocals and can provide some guitar work as well but the newer guy is a lot better than me so I started thinking what else could I add to give us a different sound. I've got the Gold Tone Banjitar and as I recently posted I added a Magnatone Lap Steel. Last night I added this Recording King Resonator which has gotten some decent reviews, was priced right and has decent electronics. We'll see how all that shakes out.

Here's a link to my purchase. Not sure you'll be able to open it because it is now a sold listing but I'll try anyway. I think I have now bought the toys I needed to help get me through the winter.

Real nice! Congratulations, that's a beauty. (Link still works, btw.)
And props to you, that is a tremendous cause.
Looking forward to reading your opinions on that rez. I've been considering one of those RKs, too. And that Wabash Blue is sweet.

Very cool and kudus on the plan!
I have two resonators now (both Guilds) and I love the tone, but man it’s such a different playing style and it hurts my head.

Oh cool! A resonator with a minibucker! I hope it’s got a tone knob you can roll back! Very cool. Wabash blue reminds me of a little dive bar in Menominee, MI where the Wednesday special is “Wabash Wednesday” which consists of super cheep but very delicious double cheeseburgers!

Richard, you really seem to be branching out and trying new instruments lately. Cool. Sounds like a very fun and worthwhile project you guys are putting together. Enjoy!

This the battleship here, taken the day I opened the case, it's a '72 Dobro, bell brass, round neck, orig case, she's a gem. I'd list it but it's too heavy to ship ;] Also, I'm not sure how I'd feel not having it. It's a like a weapon, better to have it and not need it rather than to need it and not have it ;]

I found on the Regal I have that the cone tension was cranked tight by an angry, angry man
Once I loosened it up, it sounded much better.

No lie....I honestly was on guitar center's website looking at resonators about a month ago....and was honed in on exactly this "30's Minnie humbucker" model. I went through all the colors, the various pictures, and then the 2 min video clip. Sounded great clean. Then the guy puts on some drive and plays a Nirvana tune. Took me 3 sec to hit the back button and look elsewhere. Lol. Not that that's a deterrent for this purchase Richard....that's just me. The guitar itself sounded fine. 👍🏻 Let us know how it is once you give it ...and the bucker..a full run through. I might still get one myself. (The dark burst one. 😗 )

Don't let what they play deter you, Midnight. I've heard AMAZING vids of guitar and when I got them they sounded terrible. Imagine?? :ROFLMAO::LOL::p

Wait for Richard's review. And you should always buy BLUE, if that's a choice. Well, MY choice... LOL!! (y)

Richard, now you must get at least one resonator ukulele:
model30uke.png#182A2.jpg

You can find Asian National copies easily, though I believe only Mike Lewis of Fine Resophonic in France had been making some Dobro spider ukes. They don't seem to be listed on his website currently. The metal biscuit ones are very loud, but the spider bridge ukes have a much sweeter tone,
A '31 Model 30 Dobro uke (sold for $30--if only Guild had based their model numbers on selling price--we'd all be happy with the Oxnard model renaming). The National is a 1928 Style One--German Silver with the earlier screen coverplate. The National is the large body version which they stopped making I believe in '31, the Dobro is a tenor size body. I even has a miniature sound well. There was a Model 40 which was identical but with
full binding.
