Hey guys and gals, I've asked this last week but no response ( maybe wrong place ). My Dv6 - Tacoma does not have a date stamped on the neck or anywhere else that I can see. Is that normal ?
Thanks, LTP62 :?:

Yep!

Tacomas usually did not have a visible date stamp. Check the serial number on the inside label and it should help.

It should start with T (Tacoma-built).
The following letter is the year (so, J is 2006, K is 2007, L is 2008, etc...)
The following 3 numbers indicate the DAY of the year the guitar was made.
Finally, the last 3 numbers indicate the completed unit number for that day.

So, for example TL114003 would indicate this guitar was:

1) a Tacoma-built guitar
2) built in 2008
3) made on the 114th day of the year
4) It was the 3rd unit completed that day.

Hope that helps.

Hello LTP62,

Some time ago there was a thread about Tacoma/Guild serial numbers & dating:

http://www.letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11539&hilit=serial+number,+Chazmo&start=15

or, if you don't want to read the entire thread, here's the relevant part:

Just checked the info with the help of Mo and it turns out that I was wrong.

Here's what Mo just e-mailed me:

Hans, here is what I received from my friend at the factory:

"Guilds were assigned a serial # during assembly of the top and back to the rim, just like Tacomas. The person doing the assembly would write the # on a green tag that would travel with the guitar and be initialed by all the different stations along the way until final inspection. The serial # was also written in pencil on the tailblock, inside the guitar, whereas it was written under the neck block sticker on Tacomas."

So, this means that the dating of Tacoma Guild guitars using the serial number as a guide, would be off even more (in relation to the actual completion date) than the dating of Westerly Guild guitars.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust
