I received a couple new (for me) F 50's yesterday. One is the 2004 (still need to verify) Corona built with the burst finish. Very nice shape. It does have some finish checking (that was disclosed) and a few light scratches here and there but all in all very nice. I'm also reminded that generalized statements are usually problematic. I'd been saying that I wasn't a fan of Corona built acoustics because of two prior bad experiences. But, I think maybe they were isolated experiences. Both the Valencia I received a few months ago and this F 50 are really nice sounding guitars. I really was after a F 50 Std. but the price on this one was too good to pass up so I got them both. I'll also discuss the F 50 Std. on this post as well. I'm working on the checking with my Tibet Almond Stick. It's getting quite a bit out but the deeper finish checks will be there to stay and I'm perfectly fine with that.
The second is a 2012 (still need to verify that) New Hartford built F 50 Std. I'd had one before but sold it for some reason. Theses are really great sounding guitars without the bling etc. of the typical F 50. This one is in natural which is what I was looking for. The prior owner added a custom TRC but I actually like it so that's ok. This one is also in fine condition with a couple small headstock dings but nothing of import or concern. It has a nicely figured Maple back and sides. I think of the two, this one sounds a bit better but not obviously so. They are both great.
I know that Jumbos and even Dreads are not popular with many players because of the size and many seem to prefer the OM, Grand Auditorium, 000, 00 or even Parlor sized guitars. I don't. I like the big guys, always have, Looking at what I've got on hand now, I have these two F 50's, an Oxnard built GSR F50 in Oxblood (yeah, I know, some of you don't think it really looks like Oxblood but I'll say this. It's my favorite out of all my F 50 body styles), a 2010 New Hartford built GSR F 50 with KOA back and sides and a really sweet 1979 Westerly built F 50R.
I'm attaching a few pics (likely not very good-early morning/lower light etc.) The 1st 4 are the Corona burst and the last 4 are the NH F 50 Std.
