Santa came a few weeks early for me. Yay! I was negotiating various trade deals for this Guild when the seller offered a cash sale of $450 shipped and paypaled... sounded very fair to me. From his photos I was expecting a powder blue color, and was pleasantly suprised to see it's actually a seafoamish green. I really like the color. Very good condition as well.

Any info you guys can provide as to the year and originality I'd love to hear. Here's what I was told:

1982 T250 Serial HC100914
Seller was told by the previous owner it may have been shown at Guild's booth at NAMM 1982
He thinks the pickups are original. (EMG)
Seller wasn't sure if the gold (brass?) bridge plate and control plate are original.
Nut looks like graphite.
Am told the volume and tone controls are in the reverse location.
Case looks original or at least correct.

Haven't plugged it in yet, but plays nice out of the box. I'm very happy so far. Can't wait to clean it up and plug it in.
Thanks for looking and any info. Here's some quick photos:

It looks great! I can't help on the originality of parts etc, but that sure seems like a deal to me, congratulations!

Love it, especially the color! I'd love to have a Tele-style guitar, and am curious how the twang on this one compares to a "real" Telecaster. Congrats!

congrats, zulu, great choice for a great price.
got the original tele shape, so you might call it T-200 or Roy Buchannon Signature model, HANS?
controlplate and bridge don't seem original to me. EMG's should be correct. probably a bit heavy but definately one of the best teles you can get. Njoy!

edit: somehow the bodyshape doesn't seem to match the serial no. HANS???

Thanks Krysh!

I see what you mean about the serial number. I wonder if this guitar ended up with a replacement (S281?) neck or something. Of course I can hypothesize, and the seller can claim anything. It doesn't mean much until an expert with real info sets the record straight. Hopefully Hans gets a moment to help out.

Meanwhile I'm going to treat her to a new set of strings and a thorough cleaning. Then just enjoy it!

Thanks Treem!

After a cleaning, polish and restring, I can say I'm 99% sure the bridge is not original. The strings anchor at the back of the bridge. I'm pretty sure that if the bridge were original, the holes in the body for the string-thru bridge would have strings in them!

Hello folks,

Sorry for getting in late! It's hard to say anything definitive about the guitar without holding it in my hands, but it would not be unusual for Guild to use the neck from an already existing model for a new model guitar. I have many examples in my files.
In this case we're looking at a neck that was stamped during 1985 and the production of the T-200 was started during the first half of 1986, so it is very well possible that this is an early 'demo' version of the T-200 that was used for exhibition.
The 1982 date is obviously wrong.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hans, thank you. So many things we wouldn't ever know if you weren't here and willing to share your knowledge. You are appreciated.
