Well, I picked up my Sweetwater exclusive (very) dark emerald green SF III Dyna from FedEx today. This is one of the Korean blowouts. I’ll keep it brief since GG already put out such a fine review when they first appeared.
I will say that so far I’m quite impressed by the build quality. It looks pretty darn tight with no obvious flaws. I love the size and weight. It’s very comfortable for me. It does need a set up as the strings are too high and the intonation is slightly off, but not by much.
I did plug it in at low volume for about 10 minutes just to make sure everything works, and it does. The bridge pick up is very nice and gives me a decent twangy tone. That’s where I can see myself spending a lot of my time. It also works well with some light compression. The neck pick up is, well, very mellow. I’m not thrilled with that one yet but I have to put it through its paces at a higher volume to find the sweet spot. The neck shape and width feels very nice and is “familiar.” Everything just feels right so far.
Bottom line is while I still dream of finding an older US made with original DeArmonds, this reissue seems to be a solid, easily playable guitar at what I think is a terrific price point right now. No “regerts” at all.
