Yeah, Guild's "heavy era," many with dual truss rods, pretty well debunked the conventional wisdom of "the lighter the better."

I've never had anything but 12s on my F50R. It's certainly got plenty of projection!
Could not agree more. My D30 and my DC3E are also proof positive as they are both monsters.

little known trivia James has a small part in the movie version of Lonesome Dove. He was a kid.

I am a big fan. IMHO he got into a bit of a lull after 2002’s Saint Mary in the Woods.. But he seems to be picking up steam creatively again in recent years.

Peter Pan from It Had to Happen is probably my all time favorite McMurtry tune.
I have not listened to his latest but you can bet I will.

to quote one of the Bob’s in Office Space, “I’d like to celebrate the man’s entire catalog.”

I’ll add that one of the best shows I have ever seen was James playing a solo acoustic gig at Poor David’s Pub. This was 18 or so years ago. He was playing the red GF30. You could hear a pin drop. This was the old location on Lower Greenville in Dallas. The sound in that was room phenomenal. Great night of music.

If memory serves he also had a turquoise/ green GF or JF30 in tow that night as well.

He rarely comes to NY anymore, because inexplicably he's still relatively unknown here. I saw him at The Bell House in Gowanus Brooklyn back in 2011, and there were maybe 20 people that were there to see him. That's sad, and similar to Corb Lund, another one of my favorite artists. He's huge in Canada, and relatively unknown here. Last time he played here, we ended up bar hopping with him and the band after the show!

Yeah he obviously has a pretty decent following down here in TX. I’ve seen about a half dozen times over the years. That’s pretty cool story about Corb Lund. Another good songwriter of similar ilk is Hayes Carll. Check out his music if you get a chance.

Big fan of Hayes too, and it's no coincidence that they're best buddies, and cowrite songs together, like this one!

I opened for Hayes twice when he was a little lesser known and mostly playing the TX circuit. Cool guy.

I haven't had the pleasure yet, but I imagine he is. I can tell you that we had a crazy good time with Corb and the band when we went out bouncing in the West (Greenwich) Village last time he was here. He told us that he knows hardly anyone will show up to see him, he just likes partying in NYC. What a coincidence, so do I!
