I purchased this back in the summer. It need some pretty major repairs: neck reset, crack repairs (it looked like it had some kind of water damage at the base), finish touch ups (I just wanted touch ups to maintain the vintage look), and bridge repair so I sent it to Tom Jacobs and just received it back. It was worth the wait and Tom did an amazing job. Love this guitar, it's very fun to play-really comfy medium neck, pretty lightweight, probably about 7lbs, and the early HB-1s have a distinct sound quite different from the HB-1s on my '75 Starfire II. Hard to describe except to say they have a warm vintage PAF type growl, they are not as clean and microphonic as the '75s. Then there is the burst finish, curious if anyone has seen this on other Guilds? I like it so much I'm going to refrain from adding a pickguard for now. (it didn't come with one)

That came out great! The Hagstrom tailpiece certainly is unique. Congrats!

Nice, HNGD! that color looks great on the S100! I like the clean look but seeing as you’ve still got the pg screw holes, I’m thinking a black pickguard probably would look pretty sweet.

I'm sure you're right. I'm enjoying it without the pick guard for now but I will probably add a black one in the future.
Does anyone know if the current production pick guards are the right size for a '71 S-100?

I adore this guitar. It was my first vintage guitar (which sadly began a now terrible obsession). I don’t get much use out of the Hagstrom Tremar, though that’s partly because it’s a righty trem, and thusly the arm originates on the wrong side and sits in an awkward position over the strings that makes it not very useable.
I have noticed the HB-1’s on this are much hotter than what is typically stated for these, but I’ve heard that is a thing with these early ones. I’ve never played a later model to compare, but I’d really like to. Even though they are pretty high output, the pickups still sound bright and clear, with with tons of bite and much less compression than a Gibson style humbucker, making this a particularly excellent classic rock rhythm guitar.
