I think I played one New Hartford model, but they seem to generally be pretty consistent over the years. These New Hartford F-50s are "best in breed" in my opinion
It was mine too. I spent 8 months looking for one in my price range. It's a minor miracle that I found this for a good price. The seller didn't have the best feedback, so I was quite nervous. I'm sure yours will appear too.OMG. That model is the only Guild remaining that I GAS over.....
Thanks, Cristopher! I was hoping you would see this. If I measure from the edge of the fingerboard to the sound board, it's about ..020" inches higher on the bass side. The nut looks level with the bridge, but it does look rotated as I sight down at the fingerboard extension. I don't have enough experience to know. It seems to play fine, so I think I can live with it for now. Maybe when I have some money, I'll have a luthier take a look. It sounds expensive to correct. It sounds like either the fingerboard is planed unevenly, or the neck has a twist in it (or both). Assuming the fretboard is relatively flat, you can measure the thickness at four pints: trebel and bass side near the nut, and treble and bass side at the body joint (and/or over the fretboard extension). You can often see a twist in the neck by sighting down toward the bridge from the top of the headstock, but you can confirm a twist using “winding sticks."
Sounds complicated. I serously doubt much is needed other thanIt is a common remediation attempt for a twisted neck to pull the frets, plane the fingerboard in the opposite direction to try to “counter" the twist, and re-fret. Sometimes it is “enough of a solution” to be just what you need. Some guitars will reach “end of life” early, as the only remedy is to replace the neck and, for older instruments, that is not always a feasible option.
Man, you've got to swing by the Cougar homestead up here in Hope, Idaho, like anybody else semi-nearby. We are SECLUDED on 15 acres, and don't see other people for weeks! Well, except for the occasional foray into the Cabinet Mountain Bar and Grill. Man that place was dead tonight. Apparently we missed the festivities involving all the beer drinking after church, lol. Bring Guilds! Thanks, Cougar! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!
