I love player guitars like this one, Tx. I wish I had a Guild with original Dearmonds, and I bet they sound fantastic.

As expected from one of the earlier Starfires, it doesn't have the binding on the back, like the T-100s. Also, it could be that the person sanding it down to refinish it might have taped over the binding to avoid removing the original nitro lacquer, in order to preserve the naturally aged color of it.

Thanks for the pics, and have fun playing it!

Thanks JP! This is one of the early 61 models as 1961 was the year that the Starfire's received the body binding on the back as well as the front. The original Dearmond pickups do sound Amazing. I own a set of Duncan Custom Shop Dynasonics that I have on one of my Black Falcons and it is really cool to A/B the Originals with the Custom Shop models. The Originals have just a smidgen more of everything but the Custom shop models are as close as I have ever heard to the Originals. To the untrained ear they would sound almost identical. I have waited a long time to own a early 60's Guild with the original Dearmonds and I can honestly say it was soooo worth the wait. If it is on your bucket list to get an Original Guild with Dearmonds I suggest you try to make it happen, They are definitely special instruments.

I think they left the Lacquer on the edges not just to preserve the look of the binding but also to possibly protect the binding joint from coming loose at the body. Something that I was very pleased with is there is no binding shrinkage or binding coming loose anywhere.

Hey Neal, You sanding on anything yet? LOL!

Beautiful guitar! Archer's Music in Fresno had one of these in dark green with Dearmonds back in the late 90's. Wanted that sucker so bad, just couldn't get the $$ together. One of these days...

Your SF-II is from the last quarter of 1961. Even though a few Starfires were done with back binding around that time, the actual change took place during 1962.

Sweet! Thanks for the info as always Hans and thanks for all of your input. I would be lost in a sea of Guilds without your book and all of your input here on the forum. I really dig this guitar. She reminds me a lot of myself. Beat to hell but still showing up every day. LOL! Have a Great Holiday Season!

Thanks Drlucky! The Emerald Green and Black early 60's models with Dearmonds are some of my Favorites of All time. Most of the Emerald and Black versions I have seen were maple bodied while the Cherry finish ones like mine were mostly Hog Bodied. I guess that gives me an excuse to buy a Emerald or Black one if they ever come up for sale as I would most definitely need an early 60's Maple Starfire to go with the Hog!
