I went and checked out the T-100 in Switzerland (that was posted under Online Offerings) and couldn't resist!

I was able to negotiate the price down to closer to 2k, which I'm happy with, considering how rare it is to find something like this around here. The binding is shrinking and separating in several places, but I don't mind much, and apart from that it is all original and very clean.

Pictures don't really capture how the finish glows. It's like this vibrant golden yellow that is really astounding.

I absolutely love the flat neck heel. Are there other archtops that have this?

I may have to shave down the bridge a bit to get the low action I like (or swap for another bridge to keep the original as is). But even as it is now it is still very easy to play. The neck is wonderful.
Looking forward to getting it to my luthier for a setup and putting some thicker flatwounds on it (the roundwound 10s on it now just seem wrong).

Just wonderful, jinsog. Were you busking on the bridge or did you just walk over it with the guitar?

Is that Bern?

Thanks all! I didn't mention before, but it's my first Guild.

That is Bern, good eye. However I was not busking, just crossing back over with my new purchase and felt it was a good photo op.

Very pretty! I love the aged blonde.

It's really such a warm, yellowish tinted blonde. It makes my natural-finish Godin look anemic next to it.

The Franz pickup is pretty wild too! It's very responsive, and kind of needs some taming. The basses are booming with the tone rolled down, and then the highs very chiming with the tone rolled up just a bit. I can see why someone said (somewhere on LTG I think) that Franz pickups make you want to use a compression pedal. I might need to lower the screws and also figure out the right tone settings for my amp.

Putting flatwounds on it now.

I hope you can get the guitar perfectly playable, jinsog. That's, of course, most important.

The guitar looks great, but you should probably get the binding at least cut and reaffixed to the body (it'll leave a gap) if not fixed entirely (kind of a hard job). This kind of deterioration is progressive, sadly, but it's slow and you have lots of time.

A handsome Slim Jim indeed! Simple and graceful. You'll love the tone of that Franz. Congratulations and enjoy!

I put some lightly used 12 chromes on it and, well, they are giving my left hand a bit of a workout. Gotta get the action sorted out, but they sound great, really make the guitar ring acoustically. And through an amp I think they sound much nicer than the rounds.

It seems you can really get a wide range of tones from the Franz. I tried the Ted Greene trick of turning up tone on guitar and cutting treble/mids on the amp, and I'm getting a really sweet clean muted jazz tone.

I just flattened the neck a bit (about one whole turn of the truss rod) and that had an immediate effect on the playability with these heavier strings. I know you’re not supposed to adjust action with the TR but this always works for me when I can’t lower the bridge. Once I get my luthier to shave down the saddle and maybe file the nut a bit I think I’ll be able to get it to my preferred low action.

Really nice.

I have a 1959 T100 as well. Mine has two Franz dog ears. Is it a T100A?
