Hello, everyone. I'm a newbie to Guild guitars as well as this forum - I just picked up my very first Guild about a week ago. I found this forum while searching for information about my "new" guitar.

I bought a 1991 D25NT, built in Westerly, from Guitar Gallery in Scottsdale AZ last week for $700, which seemed like a pretty decent price after I saw D25s from the same era selling for $900 and higher on eBay, and in much worse condition. This one was pretty grimy when I brought it home, but aside from a couple of minor finish dings it's in great shape - and after a little cleaning, polishing, and fretboard conditioning it looks great (see photos below). I've been a Taylor player, and I still love 'em, but my D25 has a beautiful sound that's completely different from my Taylors. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Can anyone tell me what nut/saddle material would have been used on this model? Since the back is arched I'm assuming it's laminate and the sides are solid, but can anyone confirm that? Thanks!

Hi, mbaker824

Welcome to LTG, from another newbie.

Nice D25, looks just like mine (serial numbers are about 500 apart).
Mine had plastic nut and saddle when I got it last year, but I am not sure they were original.

Mine is a '79 Bake, and it had micarta then, though I've changed it to bone. They're probably using something more erotic these days than micarta, but ya never know.

Welcome to the site sir...love the guitar.

Welcome aboard here mbaker824. As others have said, there's a lot of love for D25s around here. I have a 12er version myself! 8)

HI! Welcome to LTG, I too am a newbie, and these people have made me feel right at home.
I also have a D25, and I found this place the same way: i searched for D25 related info.
Great choice in buying it. I know the Taylors are loved by many, but there's just something about a Guild Guitar......

Thanks for making me feel at home, everybody! Somebody said the D25 was a good start in the world of Guild, and I already know that's true. I was back at Guitar Gallery today and they had two F50s and an F47R hanging on the wall - one of the F50s was a gorgeous, limited edition koa model of which apparently only 50 were made. I'm GASing for my next Guild already...

I think West is GASing for that F50 Koa too, and I think they only made more like 20 of them IIRC. As SG sez, you should fit in just fine around here.

Welcome. The nut and saddle should be corian for the Westerly Guilds of the 90's. At least that is what I was told when I bought my '97 D25 which is identical to yours. Nice guitars with a boomy deep bass thanks to that archback. Enjoy!

I went looking for one of those koa F50's at Wolfe's Guitars in Jupiter yesterday only to find that they had sold it long ago and failed to keep their online inventory updated. They did have a D40, a D50, a pair of D55's, and a F47M though, all seemingly from the NH facility, as well as an as-new Tacoma DV6 being sold at a significant markdown.

Did you check it out and if so, how was it?

Joe--

I did. Coming from my 1977 D55, the action felt ridiculously low -- maybe too low if you dig in with a pick -- and the natural finish felt almost fake. But the sound was true, and while I don't remember the exact price, I do know that it was the only American made Guild in the shop available for under a grand.

Ahhhhh..... If only we could count the number of persons that became Guild enthusiasts (or even fanatics, let's not be scared of words  ) by means of a D-25!!
Hi and welcome Pat!
Wish I were closer to you to go take a look at these F40/50....
I went to the aforementioned Wolfe's Guitars a few weeks back looking for that long gone Koa and made a brief report on the current available inventory on page 11 of this infamous thread:

Enjoy the (now building up) GAS!!!!
