Even though I grew up in the LA area & enjoyed it in the ‘60s, now big cities are last on my list. Too used to quiet little coastal towns these days - the less concrete, the better!

There's a whole neighborhood of good Indian restaurants in NYC all bunched together.
I figured there had to be in a place like NY. They even have a Sri Lanksn place I went to that was good.
Where are the good Indian places? I will tell him to go there.

I guess I just like bears, deer, bobcats and other critters more than millions of people. If I'm with somebody who knows where they are going then I'm fine in cities. (for short visits) To try and figure it out on my own????not so much.
Who could blame you! My wife and I have lots of fun just watching the critters who cut through our yard — turkeys, coyotes, groundhogs, deer, foxes . . . .

Used to live in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The city is really more like a lot of little towns all right next to each other. Most people who live in the city stick to their own neighborhoods. Lots of people hardly ever leave their boroughs. So it can feel small, even though it's not.

The sense of community is different, too. Rather than relating to people because they live near you, your circle tends to be interest-based. Bluegrass artists hang out with bluegrass artists, public interest lawyers hang out with public interest lawyers, cops hand out with cops, science fiction fans hang out with science fiction fans, softball players hang out with softball players, grafitti bombers hang out with grafitti bombers. You might not know anyone in your building, but you have lively relationships in whatever your social crowd is.

As mentioned above, It's hard to get lost in Manhattan. But I'm like you. When I go visiting places I don't know, I like to have a tour guide.

They are on 6th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue.

That's another area, but I am more familiar with the 6th Street restaurants.

And of course there is Jackson Heights in Queens.

As a young professional photographer, I wanted to move to New York City as it seemed to be the mecca of everything. I regret not doing so, but that is water under the bridge.

My son went to College in New Rochelle and then lived in Brooklyn for ten years. He worked in Manhattan. We used to stay at the Washington Square Hotel when we went out to visit. My thing when I travel is to busk in places we go. A half dozen times I wandered out to Washington Square, found a place and did my thing. Once in a great while someone would come and move me along. I either was playing in their place or in the wrong place. I just moved to another part of the park. But mostly people were very kind and generous. A few years ago my son moved to LA, so I have a whole new experience there now.
