Hi,
I am new to the Let's Talk Guild forum and was hoping for some advice. I have an opportunity to choose between two Guild X-150 guitars. One is a single pickup model manufactured in Carona; the other is a double pickup that was manufactured in Westerly. I realize that this has probably been discussed many times previously, but I was wondering what, if any, differences there are between the two guitars? I'm curious about the finish, nut size, etc.
I'm hoping to see them both later this month.

I'm a regular on the Heritage Owners Club forum and have been well educated about that brand from many fine folk there. I'm looking forward to similar experiences with the Guild group!

Thank you,

Keith

Welcome Keith you can't go wrong with either guitar but I think it will depend on what kind of music you play. Personally I would choose the two pick up guitar as I am not primarily a jazz player. Good luck. John

Welcome, Keith, and let me be the first to say ... buy 'em both!. That way, you can avoid the inevitable "so what Guild are you going to buy next" question that always accompanies the acquisition of your first Guild. :D

Just looking out for a newbie, you know.

Thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it. I guess I should have been a little more specific. Is there a difference between the Westerly X-150 and the Corono X-150?

Thanks,
Keith

Welcome. I too would go for the double pickup - I've got an old Epiphone with nothing original but the wood with just a neck-position pickup and I rarely play it due to the lack of a bridge pickup. I don't play jazz though, I prefer a little brighter tone for blues/rockabilly.

As far as the difference between the two manufacturing locations I'm not sure of any differences. I think the intent was to keep the same specs, etc., how that worked in practice I don't know. I have an X550P made in Corona and it is an excellent guitar (duh! :D ). It is different from my Westerly X160 - the neck on the X550P is a little shallower profile and wider across the fingerboard. This might just be due to the difference between the specs of the two models and the longer scale of the X550P.

Bottom line is I don't think you need to worry about which facility the guitar was made in, the 1 or 2 pickup issue would seem to me to be the main point here.

Let us know what you decide (with pics!)

So I decided to go with the Westerly X-150 with the two pickups. The Corona and Westerly X-150's are actually different sizes. The Westerly is deeper and wider than the Corona guitar. I'll be posting some pictures as soon as I have a chance.
I am very impressed with the quality of this guitar. It has a very comfortable neck and a very solid feel. I found that the pickup is one of the Fender manufactured ones, I think that I'll be swapping it out with a Gibson '57 Classic or a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover. Any additional pickup advice would certainly be appreciated.

Hey Keith, welcome. Either guitar is worth owning. I too would have gone for the double pickup guitar. I've owned several Westerly built, just got a Corona build Starfire III with P-90s. This SF is as high-quality as anything Guild I've tried. So at least to date, Corona is A-OK by me.
