I have lusted after a Starfire for a few years and just hadn't found the right opportunity.I put up a WTB ad on the Gear Page and this one came up within a day.He said everything was original except for the pickgard and maybe the frets. It has also had a small binding repair . It's had a Bigsby installed and then removed. These are the pictures taken by the previous owner. Normally I wouldn't use some one else's photos but he did a pretty good job; so until I can shoot some of my own :

It definitely has "the" tone I was looking for. I've only played it a little last weekend; hope to give it more of a work out this weekend and over the holidays.

Regards,

Tom

Welcome. Very nice looking specimen. I'm afraid, though, I have some bad news. The TRC is upside down. This is an all too common problem with older Guilds and sometimes requires drastic measures to correct.

Yeah, that's a looker! You must have purchased it from our very own Mad Dog. Here's his showoff thread from last summer. Honestly, I'm surprised he let it go, but I bet it's sweet!

Here's mine (sorry for the bad pics):

Yours is what I'd hoped to find when I found mine back in the 90s, blonde, maple w/ a harp tail. But I've grown to like the Bigsby and the mahogany, though plain is pretty in its own way... I just wish they'd left the maple neck natural, rather than obscuring it with such dark finish...

Actually the labor's not too bad but finding an NOS part can be a real PITA... Welcome aboard!

Hi Dr Tom and welcome to LTG; if that's Mad Dog's Starfire, then it's pre-loaded with good tone ... if not, I'm sure it still sounds great anyway ... Welcome!

Yes, it was indeed Mad Dog's Starfire. He was willing to let it go and I was lucky enough to end up with it. He told me the TRC was on upside down and I was going to wait and see how long it was going to take before some one noticed ; but I guess I should've known better!

I've only tried it trough a Music Man amp ( I just acquired a few) and hopefully I'll have some time to try it out some more this weekend through some other amps.

Regards,

Tom

Great starfire, and with some of guitars you've got, somehow I think you and I would get along just fine! Looks like a list of what I have, used to have, or are on my list of "buy when I find one".

Welcome Dr. Tom!

Indeed, it was my Starfire VI. The why of this sale is a little hard to explain. Mostly because it's one of the very best electrics I've had the pleasure of playing ... certainly the best playing and sounding instrument I've sold yet.

Problem was, My '66 ES-335 proves irresistible in most circumstances, when it's semi-hollow tones I'm looking for. So much so, this wonderful Starfire wasn't getting played that much. I certainly did not expect that. Then some non-guitar expenses cropped up, so financially it proved timely.

You were quite the gentleman to deal with. I'm happy you have this wonderful Guild, and wish you many years of loud enjoyment!

Michael D,

Thank you for the kind words the feelings are mutual. Thank you for a great transaction. The guitar is as you decribed it and more.

Since I had to return my brother-in-law's '66 ES-335 over 15 years ago ; I don't have to suffer through that kind of comparison that apparently you were tormented with so I'm very happy with the Guild.

I played the Starfire VI exclusively last night at band practice (instead of my usual #1 axe PRS HB II 10TOP) and it covered all the bases just fine from Beatles to Van Morrison to ZZ Top to Kinks and Jefferson Airplane(Can you tell that I'm old?). Only switching out to use my 12 String and open G tuning guitars when needed.

I'll see how long the honeymoon lasts ,however I'm loving the sound and the playabilty of the Starfire. It really takes well to my pedalboard also .

Regards,

Tom

a White Falcon, I'm impressed. where do you find space for all those fine amps? an embarrassment of riches.

avagadro,

We practice at my house so a few of the amps are used for practice; I guess I should have listed the bass amps too. No one has to bring anything if they don't want to. I have a finished basement with a back room. The amps and additional guitars are stacked to the ceiling in the back room."an embarrassment of riches" ? Its more like obessive-compulsive disorder.
