OK...I'll just say it now, it's a '53 Martin 00-18. I found it on Craigslist in Nashville and a friend played and checked it out yesterday. It passed with flying colors. Not sure if it's been around the world but it sure has been around the block. It has lots of character (don't we all). It's also had a recent neck reset and has been refretted. I'll have more pictures once it arrives here...last picture is a close up on the character...when the current owner got it it had an over-sized pickguard that was starting to peel up. He decided to take the old one off and replace with a new one that is appropriate for the guitar. Under the old pickguard he found the reason the larger one had been installed. Thing for me is that I'm getting it to play, not display. I did try to get info on an old F30 but never heard back from the seller...I think this 00-18 will be quite happy here and I'm looking forward to getting to know it. This will be my first mahogany/spruce guitar and I really like the 00 size. joan

Nice!!! I also like the 00- 000 size. Even dreads sometimes feel like a wrestling match.

Perect rationale, Joan.
I'm on the prowl for something along those lines and I'll get it for the same reason you picked up this little character-rich 00-18.
I've said before that I'd love to find a 1943.....

I like it,
Joe

Nice find!
You will have a great time with that guitar.
I hope it tells you a lot of stories.

I would live to find a 1951 D-18 that I could afford. [birth year]
I doubt that it will ever happen though. They just keep getting more and more expensive and my income keeps going down and down.

By the way, did you know that the Martin D-18 was given that name because that was the selling price for it when it first hit the market.
I would love to get one now for $18.00!
Darned inflation anyway!

I actually had the opportunity to play that exact guitar (not THAT guitar) and my Lord what an amazing discovery. I simply couldn't believe what I heard. The doggone thing truly made me sound like I knew how to play. Enjoy!!!!

Peace

How cool is that, Joan!?!? Congrats!

Might be worth drop-filling the soundboard chips, but that will sure be a great player to have. look forward to hearing more about it.

The 00-18 left Nashville yesterday, traveling FedEx Express and is due here tomorrow. I stopped by our local FedEx station today, gave them the tracking #, and they're going to keep it there instead of putting it in the hot truck for delivery. I should be able to pick it up early afternoon.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear the reviews...and see more pics. A 00-18 is one of those on my short guitar bucket list.

Hokey smokes! It looks like somebody was strumming it with a set of tire chains!

Bet it doesn't hurt the sound one bit, however, and I am a big believer in mojo marks. As long as the price was appropriately adjusted to reflect the aesthetic condition, I say rock on!

Congratulations Joan! I recently joined the Martin owners club when I bought this one, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. I owned a '76 D28 during the eighties (yeah, it was one of those dreaded '70s Martins; I didn't know at the time) that I had so many problems with that I swore I'd never own another one.

Never say never...

You're welcome, and Thanks SG! I'm thrilled with the guitar, and I think my luthier likes it even more than I do.

Looking back on it, I think Fedex did a tremendous job getting those guitars to you quickly and safely. 8)
