Hi All,

I'm Michiel from the Netherlands. I've been following this forum for a while now but after my latest purchase I decided it was time to become a member and share some pics of my Guild T100d from 1965. It's got scars all over it and it's pretty beaten up, but that's part of it's charm in my humble opinion. Couldn't be more happy with it. As far as I know she's completely original, with the exception of the Bigsby style tremolo, which as a matter of fact works great. It's a Kay production from the same Era.

I do have a question though. While searching the internet for some info about the "Mickey Mouse" pups, I noticed all of them have a metal cover surrounding the sides of the white plastic. Are mine non-original pickups or did a previous owner took them off at some point. Does it influence the sound of the pickups?

Welcome! Stick around - nice bunch of folks around here. I'm an acoustic guy, but I expect the archtop/electric folks will be along directly.

Hello Michiel, bonus points for posting a photo in your initial post!

We have seen the "Mickey Mouse" pick-ups before without the chrome covers. Most often on S-200 Thunderbirds.

Here' a few photos from the internet:

Welcome to LTG! Your T-100D is very cool, thanks for sharing! No worries on the pickups, they are correct as Grot showed above.

That’s funny Ralf, the guy I bought it from comes from nearby Breda. As a matter of speaking he recommended me reading a Guild book written by a guy from Breda.

Well that is The Guild Guitar Book by Hans Moust http://www.guitarchives.nl/guitarsgalore/

Copies can be scarce and pricey. You can certainty get one if you budget $200 USD but if you want one for less than $100 USD you should be prepared to wait.

There is a Kindle edition but users report it doesn't handle the photographs well.

Hello Michiel,

Welcome! Most of the earlier versions of the 'Mickey Mouse' pickup didn't have the metal frames, that you will see on later models, so the pickups on your guitar look like the correct ones. Your guitar is probably one of the last ones that didn't get the frames.
Theoretically the ones without the frames could be a little more prone to 'hum'. Apart from the 'humming' I don't think it has a big influence on the actual sound.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Thank you all for the kind words. Does anybody have recommendations for a nice vintage amp to pair with this guitar? My Brunetti, seen on the first picture, is a great amp but must be turned ear destroying hard to get a hint of dirt. Though pedals can do the trick I was wondering for suggestions for other amps. Guess I have the vintage virus :sneaky:

As for amps, if you want gigable volume but some break up, a Princeton Reverb is a dynamite amp. With a 12”speaker, it’s pretty near perfect. I also really like Gibson Falcons and Scouts. Just my opinion, tho.
