Welcome truetone. You have a flair for the ultra-dramatic, joining up by trading three guitars for a '66 green Starfire V. The only scenario I can think of to put it in context is making your major league debut by hitting a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth. Bravo!

I especially like the little boy in the photo saluting the three-line Chesterfield headstock inlay. Perfectly posed photo! That one should be your avatar, because we're all like that little boy, saluting you on a most excellent score and introduction.

Sorry to veer away for a moment, but I had to do something with the headstock photo. Had to!

Plain ...

... or with a slogan

And now back to your regularly scheduled oogling of the emerald green Starfire VI.

Unless there's a brick of gold inside one of those guitars, that's an amazing trade deal! Man, I would have JUMPED at that!

I'll offer a Peavey Preditor, an Oscar Schmidt autoharp, and a full size Tercel spare tire for that seriously beautiful guitar.

Welcome. I love those green Starfires, so I've set an alert to let me know about them. I actually posted about your guitar not that long ago. Since you bought the guitar, my alert has been going off almost daily, alerting me to your posts across the web. I see that you've posted about your new acquisition on Harmony Central, The Gear Page, Off Set Guitars, and Gretsch Talk. I was wondering how long it would take you to find us!

Btw, what are those little switches that have been installed? Are they phase switches?

EDIT: I see you that you answered my question about the phase switches on TGP. Didn't notice that till now. Phase switches indeed.

Haha,I hope that didn't annoy you seeing the same guitar all over the internet. I belong to a lot of different forums and sometimes this ticks people off.

No, didn't annoy me at all. I just thought it was funny that the guitar was being posted everywhere except LTG!

welcome to LTG, from a fellow TGPer! one thing i noticed over at TGP was that this is a 16 fret to the body one, not a 18 fret to the body like the later 60s guilds. but the 18 fretters are usually the ones that get the bigsby with the extended roller bar, and the 16 fretters get the short bigsby, no added bar. therefore, isn't the break angle over the bridge a little sharper than it should be on a 16 fret Guild? also i'm wondering if it might not be an original bigsby, with the earlier bigsby swapped later for a longer one? just meandering thoughts here!

Hello Jahn,

The change to the longer style Bigsby with the added bar took place during 1966, when the double cutaway Starfire models still had the neck joint at the 16th fret. It didn't take place exactly at the same time as the change to the neck joint at the 18th fret.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Good to know, hmm smack dab in the transitional year, thanks! And man Southside's in my town, I'm tempted to head there and just try it out! Uh, but not try to breathe on it, being $3600 and all, yikes!
