Well, brand new on here. Result of recent purchase of a D40 Richie Havens, Tacoma, WA. Absolutely love this guitar which is one reason I bought it.
The other....price. I got for 800.00. After doing a little research I reached into my savings and bought this baby. It will be with me a long time. I have had a Sigma for 31 years which has been a good guitar. This Guild is a whole different level however. Hello to everyone and look forward to some great reading on here.

Hey GR,

Let me be the first to welcome you to LTG - so much more than a guitar forum. You definitely grabbed a great one there - the D40's are up there with the best of them that Guild made.

Post well (or not), post often, and most importantly POST PICTURES ... or you will be thrown out !! (Just kidding  )

Welcome! I only beat you here by a few days...
Just got bit by a D25BR that gave me a serious case of GAS, which is only containable (it's not treatable) on this forum. Enjoy!!!!!

Allow me to be the first to say "Welcome aboard!" Watch out though there's probably a bunch of guys right behind me about to pile on! :D As you'll see from my signature I have a soft spot for Richie Havens models.. Did it come with the extra pickguard or was it mounted? Does it have the Dtar? From what I hear about Tacomas it might just be a little finer than my Corona...if you think it's good now just wait about 5 years for it to REALLY develop...you'll find yourself strumming lightly at midnight thinking "man how can it get any better than this?"
Wow I see by the time I finished writing this all those other guys already piled on! Is this a great place or what!?

The economy certainly worked in my favor on this one. They had it marked at 1,340.00 and the shop guy blamed the fact that it did not have a pickup on it of the reason it hadn't sold. I think it is a combination of small town and down economy. I start a new job Monday, so I got my dream guitar and new job!

I bought all mine new, I know just how ya feel! Granted the price was right every time but there's nothing like that "virgin bride" feeling!
Oh yeah, the way it gets "better than this" 'round midnight is when there's more Guilds to be excercised.....

It has the extra pickguard (unmounted) which I plan to keep it that way. Dtar? Rookie here don't know what that be??? Please explain.

Okay, got it. No it doesn't have a pickup. May add later.

Welcome G'rookie to the world of GAS and remember, there is no known cure so just enjoy it. If the condition lasts for more than 4 hours, you have this forum to lean on, but don't call your doctor.

From a Sigma to a D-40....wow! Shouldn't be too hard to tell the difference.

Stay tuned and in tune,
Joe

Welcome, GR!

Not too long ago I was asked to keep my eye open for a decent playable low-cost guitar for a friend of a friend. I came across a Sigma in pretty good shape at the right price. Bought it, put new strings on it and played it for a week. It was a nice guitar.

Then I went back to my D40. After playing for ten minutes I had to go back to the Sigma to see if someone had stuffed a towel in the soundhole. You are right – the Guild is “a whole different level”! And it’s only going to sound better over time.

Enjoy!

Ahhh, another Sigma owner. For some reason, I don't see too many of them around. Honestly, the main reason I am hanging on to mine is that it is a classical nylon string guitar. At this point, I don't see myself upgrading, so it fits the bill. Congrats on the D40. Those are great. I am guessing that the Richie Havens model has a sitka spruce top, unlike the reg D40 (adirondack)? Lastly, welcome. It is easy to get addicted here.

I will always have a soft spot for the old Sigma. She's been good and I feel sort of sad for her because she is in semi-retirement now that a "Lexus" is parked in the driveway. Pun intended. My sister actually gave me a '95' Lexus a month ago. So having this Guild only seems natural.

A little history on the Sigma. I traded an SG Copy for it when I first joined the Navy due to travel contrainsts. Got it at Strings n' Things back before they had a fire and rebuilt. It was listed for about 300.00 in 1978. Traded straight up for it.
