Hi:

After soul-searching, trying and collecting opinions, I made the plunge and bought one of the new Conneticut D55s (Antique Burst).

It is wonderful in every way. It has a heavy bass end but not at the expense of the middle range (such as is the case with my Martin D28). The new features are fine. My only regret is that to finance the big acquisition, I had to trade in my D40.

I'd like to hear anyones impressions of late-model D55s.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,

I have no experience with the new Guilds, however;
As to your new D55....congrats!! :D
As to having to trade in your D40....ouch! :(
But, a man has to do, etc......you know the rest.

Enjoy the Guilding,
Joe

They cost too much and you have to trade in another guitar.

Congratulations on the new D-55, I hope it teaches you many new songs!

Welcome aboard Jeff,

Does your new D55 make you the first CT D55 owner on the forum ?

Would love to hear your impressions of it, photo's would be great too...

Cheers, Ian

Hi:

Thanks for all the good words! I certainly would like the distinction of being the first owner of a Conneticut D55 on the forum. I purchased it in Montreal at approx. 1PM (EST) on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Anyone before that?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm pretty sure one of our members from Florida bought one of the first ever made. Production was just getting started in December of 2008, I think, and the NAMM show disclosed the model to dealers in January 2009.

Hi Chaz,

I thought they were still made in Tacoma at that stage ? Are there dates for the Westerly/ Corona/ Tacoma/ New Hartford production listed anywhere (apart from the elusive vol 2 of course...) ? As an aside there are still Tacoma guilds available new here in NZ !!

Congratulations Jeff!!! :D :D
I played an Antique Burst Connecticut D55 just the other day and you have got one GREAT SOUNDING GUITAR There!
I absolutely loved the sound of the one I played! Such a balanced smooth sound with a wonderful bottom and as you said it doesn't compromise the mids.
Enjoy one of the best guitars being made today!

I don't know if any D-55s from December 2008 actually exist, guitardude. Maybe. Tacoma was still not closed down right until 2009. The production from New Hartford led off with D-55s and the one they showed at NAMM was dated from the first days of January 2009. There might've been a slight crossover, but very little.

Congrats!

I love my '06 D-55 and it has been my main gigging axe for almost 4 yrs now. Just a spectacular guitar in every way. You'll love yours too!
