ah....a group of like-minded curmudgeons! Honestly, I sometimes have a problem getting a good joint when I use the compliant stuff. It is quite possible that I somehow unconsciously sabotage those joints because of my political aversion to the whole green/environmentally-friendly trend that has screwed up so many neat products over the years. I really loved leaded, high octane gasoline in my muscle car and pickups (also with big block V8s), I guess I'm just a throwback to the sixties.

Don't get me wrong, blue. Although admittedly, I do love rip-roaring, smoke-spouting, 2-stroke motorcycles from the 70s and GP racing. I'm also appreciative that the lead-filled soldering joints of my Mesa Boogie DC-5 instill in me an almost reverent sense of trust that I will turn it on, and it will always work.

However, I do also, by choice, happen to live in a city famous for green energy and bicycle culture. I fully support green alternatives, whenever it's economically feasible, and quite frankly pragmatic. And it pains me that in America, smart practical choices that are good for everyone and the future are usually side-railed by politics and big money.

Despite my former co-workers wistful longing, they most assuredly wouldn't trade their pristine waterways, clean air, spotless healthy forests, and well-preserved countrysides and coastlines for better carb cleaner. Despite my hobbies, I would also do the same.

JP,
I hope you didn't take my irreverent attitude too seriously. Quite frankly, there are so few of my species remaining in the wilds of 21st Century America, that I don't think we are likely to pose a threat to the direction in which American society continues its evololution. I often shoot my mouth off out of frustration and recognition of my status upon the endangered species list. take care, bro.... enjoy your clean/green city (which one are you referring to, if I may be so bold as to inquire?)

p.s., I was born and raised in the pacific northwest....eastern washington state, to be specific. couldn't help but notice your indication of the great northwest as your home....ce blue

Hey blue,
I live in Portland, OR. I wasn't taking it too seriously at all, so no need to apologize. :D :D I've got a good bit of curmudgeon in me too so no worries, and I'm kind of old fashioned in many ways. I'm the guy who hunts for old tools from the 50s and 60s, and teaches my kids to fix things instead of tossing them out. I've never had an iPod, and I have more vinyl than I do CDs or MP3s. I'm more fascinated by manufacturing processes than I am by new wireless technology. I'd rather fiddle with old fishing gear than new cell phones. And I'll take pragmatism over politics any day.
