In the interest of lightening the load when lugging my AP archtops around (the hardshell cases are quite heavy) I did some research, and then had Probag make me a leather gig bag. It just came today, and here it is...

It appears to be very well made, and it is considerably lighter. If I were to knock it for anything it would be that the edges beyond the stitching are rough and unfinished, but that is a very minor issue, and should have no affect on the durability or performance of the bag. Overall, it seems to be a great bag, and will make local trips much easier.

Sure, but I think a nice G-Shield on the pocket would look better.

I think you have a Great Idea there. Bound to be somebody that can embroider it for you. But let me say that You are One Brave Individual!! It would scare the you know what out of me to be carrying that guitar around in a Bag.:nightmare: Even one as well made as that one. It is a great looking Bag.

It would seem risky, but in reality I would bet that gig bags are much more common than hardshell cases when bringing an archtop to a gig. Flying and checking the guitar is another story, but if I'm just putting it in my car and driving to my destination using a bag doesn't worry me in the least. My instructor in my earlier years was a somewhat famous jazz guitarist, and he would always arrive at my house, regardless of the weather, with either an L5 or a vintage Epiphone Broadway from the 30's or 40's in a much less substantial bag that was leather, but had minimal padding or support. That's all he used, and to my knowledge never had any issues.

Nice looking bag! Those ProBags are very well made. I'm a big fan of the new hybrid gig bags. I just flew to and from Europe with my Mono Vertigo without any issues. My only concern with the ProBag is that there isn't material bracing the neck against the piece where the neck rests, the way there is on the Monos or Reunion Blues Continentals. The braced neck would really only be an issue for flying or extreme situations though. Congrats on the bag!

I was looking at the Mono case, but couldn't find one to fit a 17" archtop, and couldn't find anything but the probag to handle the width of the Artist Award headstock. For flying I would use the hardshell case for sure.
