My “Pristine” DV52

I’d appreciate your opinions on the condition of my most recent purchase, a DV52

Here’s the verbatim eBay ad (misspellings and all):

1998 Guild DV52 in prestine condition

This guitar is from my collection and has been played very little, np scratches, dings, dents, almost mint condition. It is one of the last DV52's made at the Rhode Island facility, hate to sell it but I need the funds. Besides that I still have my old beaters to play and I use them 99% of the time anyway. Shipping and insurance $50.00 lower 48 only. Pay Pal only. No dissapointments here this is a great guitar. Returns not accpeted unless item is not as described. Also I forgot to mention all my guitars are humidity and temperature controlled in a smoke-free enviornment.

Below are pictures of the nicks and dings I found after examining the guitar. My question is, has the guitar been misrepresented? Am I being unreasonable? I paid top dollar for it and expected a near perfect guitar. The guitar is very nice and I've decided to keep it but would like your opinions as to how to deal with the seller.

Thanks

John

Re: My “Pristine” DV52

While it may not be pristine, it's not a beater. What did you pay for it?

What are your intentions with it? In a year or two from now is there going to be some additional buckle rash or another ding?

There are some folks here that are real sticklers for the condition of their guitars, and for good reason. I'm just not one of them.

Are you happy with the sale? If so, close the case. If not contact the seller and ask for clarification of their description and try to work out some compensation.

DV-52s are fabulous guitars, you should not loose any resale $$ on it unless you overpaid.

Just my Canuckbuck.

It was misrepresented and you should ask for a couple of hundred to be refunded because of it.
Pictures like the ones that you have shown to us should have been posted for you to see.
You have a great guitar but you should have had a much better idea of what you were purchasing.
I would even comment about him to ebay, if it were me.

I agree with TMG - "prestine" (sp) can mean a lot of things to different people, but "no dings or dents" should only mean one thing to any reasonable person!

I'd try and get an adjustment on the price before you leave his feedback Fergi. Then, since you are here in Texas, I'd send pictures to Ross the magic luthier and get an estimate on a repair.....in fact, I might do that first.

If the guy makes an adjustment, I'd give him good feedback, if not, well....his feedback might be adjusted accordingly. I think Ross could fix that for next to nothing. The only ding that really bothers me is the one that appears to be just breaking through the finish.... but it only appears to be say 1/4" in diameter. Nothing to get too excited about I don't think. He may have misrepresented a bit, but I like to try and give every benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to make it right before hammering his feedback, especially now that feedback is so one sided on eBay to the buyer.

This guitar Is in nobodies right mind either Pristine nor near mint. It sounds to me like the seller was snorting some kind of controled substane when he wrote this ad. I would not let this go. Now if he had posted these type of pics with the ad and given you a chance to see the true condition of the guitar then there would be no need for this discussion. I would take note of the sellers ID and not buy from him again but, if you are happy with the guitar then I would follow the earlier advice by TMG. JMHO

Thanks to everyone from your input. I think I''ll take West's advise and talk to a luthier first.

West, do you have the contact information for the Luthier you mentioned?

And Graham, you don't need a car do you 'cause I've got this preistine 1998 Saturn that . . . . . . .

Yea Fergi.......West is right on time there. His advice is SAGE! ....follow that Id say.....THAT is NOT "pristine"....not at all by ANY seNce of the word. Id be knocking at his DOOR!!...but, ok follow WEST ways.....first! My Dv52 was sold to me as "pristine"....."not a single scratch at all on her" he said...." IF you want scratches on her....you'll have to put them there yourself" he said!!...............I said "i have a VERY GOOD eye"....he said, THAT eye wont find a SINGLE SCRATCH....PRISTINE!" We agreed to purchase. WHEN I recieved her........YEP, NOT A SINGLE SCRATCH....PRISTINE!!! THAT IS WHAT YOU PAID FOR.....NOT what you got! although...in time, of course...they MAY or MAY NOT appear....BUT THAT is up tp YOU. not THEM!!!! Walk the WESTerly road...lets SEE where THAT takes you........IT SHOULD BE FINE IN THE END. Im staying tuned! Damit...PRISTINE....still means PRISTINE....doesnt it? GOOD LUCK!!!!!

One more time for the count (post count that is  ): " Prestine" it ain't.
And one more attempt for everybody's curiosity's sake: What did you end up paying for it?

Re: My “Pristine” DV52

I was following that one ( for the few hours it was up anyway!) on the bay. Definitely worth what you paid but I would certainly call him on the condition. That top ding would bother me, he definitely should have mentioned / pictured that. Not "dead mint" as stated in the add.
Just my .02.

We'll have to get it from Kenny. The number I gave you is one given me by Ross in an email.
