Excellent point, Ralf!
Strange, I only see one other to the Sam Ash one, and that other one clearly shows "with case":There are at least 4 on amazon from 4 different merchants. none of them indicate it includes any case at all, hard or soft.

You don't read the webpage correctly! "w/Case" means "with Case"
Color / Part #:
- Starfire™ Bass, Cherry Red, w/ Case
the ones on amazon either say "case not included" or don't say anything at all-
http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Starfir...TF8&qid=1373548764&sr=8-1&keywords=guild+bass
sam ash website "case not included"-
http://www.samash.com/guild-starfire-bass-guitar-newark-st-collection-g2400866x
but i know if you walk into a sam ash store, you get the hard case.
Maybe the amazon and sam ash listings are incorrect, and you get a nice surprise in the form of a hard case when you receive it in the mail. But that is not how they are advertised.
the ones on ebay appear to include the hard case. At least the 2 that I clicked on did.
Frono feel free to relocate these posts to one of the Newark Street threads. Thanks
my opinion is it is NOT a misprint. and the ones that don't say anything...my opinion is basically those do not have the case either. it would say "hard shell case included" in the amazon product description. that is a major feature and a major selling point. There are at least 4 on amazon from 4 different merchants. none of them indicate it includes any case at all, hard or soft.
I don't know the facts but my opinion is some of them, designed for internet sales, are packed from the factory without the case. some internet sales might not collect sales tax (although these days that could go either way). But they all say "free shipping" so at the end of the day, there is no free lunch.
I HOPE i'm wrong. but as of this moment, I don't think so. Maybe one of you that is a lot closer to the Guild corporation can get this resolved, so that each Newark Street bass does in fact get delivered with the Guild hardshell case, no matter where you buy it. At that price, it is absolutely mandatory. Nobody is knowingly going to pay that with no hard shell case for this gorgeous (semi) hollow brand new instrument. The TKL case alone, brand new, has to be $100-$150, but closer to priceless in that you pretty much can't do without it. Plus at least one picture I saw of the case on ebay shows there is a small "Guild" logo on it. ( I honestly did not catch that on the one I saw in the flesh, in the store. I saw a small TKL badge but do not remember seeing the Guild logo. There was a lot going on and I didn't search the case over specifically looking for that.)
Are all these newer Newark basses the cherry red? Seems that is the only color I have seen. Maybe being just bias, but I gotta say that Guild did a great job with the tobacco burst. I use the Virtuoso Cleaner and Polish and it makes it look great.
Is it worth trying to touch up those dings from a collectible point of view? I am mostly a player, but I do tend to like collectibles, I just try and use things that I collect... if that makes sense.
The areas on the back of the neck are going to continue to wear, and actually make the bass a little harder to play because those bare areas don't let my fingers slide.
