Well I've always known about Guilds but never had a chance to play one until recently. The D-25 is the one I've heard the most about. However at the local guitar store here their are 2 guilds for sale. 1 Jumbo 6 string with a nice sunburst and an Arched back similar to the D-25, and a 12-string Dreadnaught. The 12-String is the best sounding 12 I've ever played. The Jumbo sounds pretty special too. I dont know their model numbers exactly but I'll ride up their in the next few days and get back to yall. Something tells me the crowd around here would be interested in knowing.

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, Im getting the Guild tomorrow.

As far as the Guilds that are in my town here, the six-string is a JF-65, and I'm not sure on the 12 string. I do believe both are Westerly Guilds.

I cannot wait.

Another welcome from someone who can relate to your situtation: I just joined the Guild "asylum" as someone here put it  after acquiring my first D25.
Now let me warn you: You currently are going through the "excitement" phase but as soon as you will park the car back from your trip, enter your home, sit down and play the thing, you will inevitably step into the "insanity" phase (A.K.A. "GAS"), for which there is no cure and no turning back. Please don't hesitate to turn to the forum for support,we'll be glad to help... :D

Now as far as the observation made about the top seemingly being mahogany which I thought was no longer used on 25's after 1975, and if I were in your shoes, I would pray for it to be mahogany (BTW mine is an all hog 1972 flat back) because I just fell in love with it.
Granted I play mostly blues, and depending on styles and techniques, hog might seem to some a little less "rangy" and too "punchy" for your expectations.
So if this turns out to be the case and leaves you short of your expectations, please send me a pm (and shhhhhh, don't let anybody else know) so I can get that thing out off your hands!

Ooooh, love that mahogany beauty!!!!

Welcome aboard!

[edit: oh, and about the soundboard... I agree with Hans that it's hard to be sure. There's some beautiful silking all throughout the top, which I believe means that the top was perfectly quarter-sawn. As for the material, indeed, take a picture from the inside when you get it, and it'll be clear]

Welcome NYF. I've heard nothing but good things about the D25 but I've never played one. I'll have to do that one day. My D15M is pretty sweet but I need another Guild. I NEED another Guild.
Enjoy
Peace

Hello neilyounfan,

We didn't hear back from you after this last posting. No problems with the guitar I hope?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Let's hope he's too busy playing!

Sorry to keep yall waiting, I have been very busy with school and work. 35 hours a week at work and 15 hours of classes doesn't leave me much time. As far as the guitar goes...it is EVERYTHING I wanted and more.

The tone is awesome. It has the growl of a Gibson, the power of a Martin, and clarity of a Taylor, which I now know to be the tone of a Guild. It really doesn't do the guitar justice to compare it to other brands, it is, in its own right, a monster of a guitar. I can't believe this was their entry level guitar. It is in great condition, although I haven't taken it to the guitar store here yet to see if it needs a neck reset or any kind of setup. I love it guys, its great. I still don't know if the top is spruce or mahogany yet. I can get some pictures of it posted soon if someone can tell me what specifically I need to photograph so yall can tell.

Anyways, thanks for the concern guys. In the meantime, Im gonna keep picking the Guild. Haven't touched the D-35 since I got it.

Happy to hear you like it!

Re. photos:
Taking photos of dark-topped guitars can be hard. Especially if you want to see what wood the top is made of. Try to make a close-up photo of just the front of the body, not straight on but on a slight angle, outside and if possible during overcast weather. Put the guitar on a stand or against a tree or wall, not flat on it's back. No direct sunlight on the guitar because that will get you too much glare! Just give it a shot if you can find the time!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Another suggestion is to take a picture from inside the guitar, when you replace the strings, thats what I had to do with my white D25, clearly showed it to be mahogany. Steffan
