Hi,

I recently purchased a 1965 (or so I'm told) CE-100D is amazing condition. I absolutely love this guitar. I have owned many Gibson hollowbodies previous to this guitar. It is far and away the best guitar of this type I have ever owned. I'd put the sound between a Gibby and a Gretsch. I love the neck pup and both pups together, the bridge pup is a bit thin sounding to me tho. If I provided the serial number could anyone tell me if this is really a '65? It ultimately doesn't matter, but I'm curious. The guitar has what appears to be an aluminum cast bridge. Is this stock? It's the only piece I'd consider changing. It a compensated bridge and the guitar plays remarkably in tune. I also LOVE the Guildsby. As long as it's used in moderation it does not effect tuning at all. I'm just knocked out by this guitar. Any info, tips, or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Nice! Congrats.

I could tell you about the date... mainly because that might be my old CE-100. What's the number?

Paul,
welcome to LTG! Nice first post with pictures or a great guitar!
A lot of details about those Guild guitars until 1977 can be found in the paperback book that our member, and Guild guru, Hans Moust, wrote:

We all call it our "Bible" for the Guild guitars. It's also a nice gift for Guild lovers.
Otherwise use the "search" button on the top right side of the webpage and enter CE100D (no "-") for much more info from here. Hours of reading in front of you! :D

Hi,

I bought the guitar from a guy named Craig near Minneapolis last month. He said he had it for 20 years and never played it. I don't know where he got it. Thanks!

Welcome to the LTG, H-L. Beautiful guitar, since you got from a guy near Minneapolis, I'm guessing you reside in or near the Twin Cities. That puts you in good company with a number of other LTGErs, myself included.

Ha! That's absolutely not true. I bought it in 2008 from a dealer in Rhode Island. I sold it sometime last year. I can't remember who I sold it to. I do have plenty of pictures of it.

Regardless, it's a fine guitar and it is a 1965. I too was impressed by its ability to keep tune. The compensated bridge never allowed perfect intonation, but I was always very happy with it. It really is in remarkable condition. It was actually my first Guild, so I kind of miss it at times. Those pickups sound awesome and the CE-100 is the perfect body size, in my opinion. And that black faux-gator skin case is amazing.

I'm glad to see it's with someone who appreciates it. Enjoy!

Hi,

Do you guys ever get together and jam/compare guitars? I'm in Bloomington, so I can get around the cities fairly well.

I found my sales record. It's the same guy. But, of course, that's not important. You've got a great guitar there. Many congrats!

You sold it to Craig? Huh, I wonder why he lied to me. So, what do you know about the guitar? I'm just curious about it's previous owners. Are you in Minnesota? Thanks!

I'm sure he just thought it was easier to sell by saying it had been sitting around unplayed. It's in such great condition that it does look like it has been in a closet for years. Considering how so many sellers lie about guitars, I would say his is no big deal.

I'm in Alabama. I'm not a gigging musician, so for three or so years I just played it around the house and with friends. I know it has some rough spots on the back of the neck. It never bothered me, but that's about the only blemish on there, besides those two weird dings on the pup covers. Actually, when I bought it, the pups were both inverted with the poles facing each other. I think this was from the factory because I have seen it on other 60's Guilds. I turned them around to how they are now. That's the only modification to that guitar that I know of. Everything else is original.

I liked that guitar so much that in 2009 I had it appraised by Gruhn. I have the appraisal and would be happy to email it to you or post it here. He gives lengthy comments on its "fine" originality and "exceptional condition."

My favorite thing about that guitar, among many, is the balance of the Guildsby. That's hands down the best Bigsby I have ever played. It always felt like the vibrato was perfectly balanced across all the strings.

Mmm, talking about it brings back some good memories. If you should ever decide to sell it....

We haven't yet, but off the top of my head, I can think of several Twin Cities members -- guitarshaman, powerwagonjohn, mistertv, drc, sal, truetone, 43jimfear, myself. I'm probably missing others as well...

Hi,

I would really appreciate any info you can provide about the guitar, thanks so much! Again, this is pure curiosity. I did email the seller as I promised him a few guitar lessons. I'll see what he says. My email is guitarist (my first name) at gmail . com Should I ever decide to sell, I'll give you first shot. Thanks again.

Very nice guitar. I didn't think I needed another Guild but that one makes me think again. It woulde be great if we could get a local meet set up some time. I live in Vadnais Heights just north of St.Paul and would love to meet others and see their guitars. Thanks john

Hi John,

I'm right by the Mega Mall. I'm dying to play the previous model with the P-90 looking pups. I'd be more than happy to either host or attend a get together. I'm off to Oshkosh for the big airshow on Sat, but will return on the 30th. Thanks!
