Just had to share--just scored a '65 T100D from a (wonderful!) friend at work...I am so psyched! This old lady is beat to Chit but man can she sing! The neck is straight as an arrow...the action is butter and she can play smooth jazz or howl out the blues...any recommendations on amps? New Toy Oh Boy! Go over to the archtop forum and the thread 1965 T100D to see some pics...

What's your budget on an amp? $$$$? $$$? $$? $?

Yeah... need your budget and wattage requirements.

You are pretty much guaranteed to get at least 3 recommendations for an old Gibson!

Congrats on the guitar, sounds fantastic.

If you need a low wattage amp (mostly for around the house) with some oomph & character, go for a late 50's to 1960 Gibson GA-5.

Hi CWG; If you're not ready for prime time but want true vintage tone to go with your new guitar, consider an old Gibson.

Gibson GA5 Closed eBay Auction ... $325 Like some/many older amps, this would have needed $100 in tech time for a new power cord and power supply filter caps. If I'd had the money, I'd have bought it.

Gibson GA8 Gibsonette, open eBay auction This one too would need a trip to the tech; big black chunky thing (pic 4 of 5 / left to right) power supply filter caps ... that thing needs to be replaced. More here on the GA8 .. my thread of a slightly newer Gibsonette. Parallel 6V6s, louder than a Champ and the GA5 above ... really fine tone.

And ... if you really wanna know if love is real ... Rare, near-mint GA-6 Lancer. Ready to go with new power cord and filter caps ... as nice as the older Gibsons get:

Congratulations again on your new guitar and good luck with your amp-hunting! CJ

So everyone's into Gibsons? I trust you all so much I have to check them out...gotta love Google and Wikopedia! Oh have I mentioned that amped is FUN? My buddy lent me his tiny Line 6 that has some silly shredding effects and it's just a gas to go through some blues progressions...! I really think I'm gonna enjoy this journey...
