Hi guild enthusiasts, Sorry I haven't posted anything for a time. But I'm back. You can see from my ever changing signature that I am constantly adding, upgrading and selling my Guilds to find the perfect Guild guitars for me and my playing style. I have recently been looking for early Hoboken blond beauties. I really dig Guild guitars that were made during this period of the late 50s through the early 60s where I think Guilds quality was unmatched. Not that I don't love Guilds from NY, Westerly or CT. So far I have come up with these three. The guitar on the left, which just arrived this week, is a 1959 CE100DPB. As you can see the condition is very clean. It plays like a dream and the tone from the original franz pups is unmatched, IMO. In the middle is my 1959 X550. Again the guitar is very clean but has had some of it's binding reglued. The X175 on the right came courtesy of Zizila and according to her, Hans has confirmed that the bigsby is original equipment. A bisgby is not usually found on an X175 since it is a jazz box. As you can see from the photo all these beauties are in excellent condition and set up by my luthier for optimal playability and sound. Enjoy the photo and I will be back with more recently added additions soon. Thanks for looking. MB

That's correct and it looks like you missed this partial scan of the Sept. 29, 1961 page that I posted in an earlier thread.

Sweet guitars Mike! Thanks for posting that photo.

Now if I may veer a bit; Hans, what is that guitar listed as a T-200 III (#17241)?

Beautiful trio there Mike! I've got to agree that there's something very special about Hoboken Guilds, especially the ones with ghost labels. 8)

Interesting in this pic is how theCE100D body really isn't any narrower than the X175/X500 of that time. Some day I'll have a CE100D!!!!

Also slightly veering here, but the page from Sept. 29, 1961 is a good example of how already serial numbered 'superstructures' could stay on the racks for quite some time before they were completed in 'final assembly'.

Sept29_1961.jpg

Most of the instruments are in the 17000-serial number range, but look at the two F-20s with the Natural Tops. Those are in the 14000-range and were already serial numbered at the end of 1960.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Mike, LOVE your Guilds! Just got my 57 X-550 back from my soon to be ex-friend in San Diego who was watching my 57 X-550 and who I just found out sold and pawned three of my Gibsons as he lost his business in San Diego ie Center City Music as well as his wife, but that will be another story as the litigation proceeds against him........the guy didn't pawn off my 57 X-550 as he thinks (thought) that old Guilds were never comparable to Gibsons.............can the rest of you guys believe that!? A real piece of work......... jim in Oklahoma City

Hi Mike!

Nice to read from you again, your blonde / Franz trilogy is awesome!

Thanks again for having provided me with my two lovely 6 string Starfires and having helped me in discovering the wonderful world of Guild guitars that are quite rare uncommon in France. :D

Great threesome, Mike!

Jimmy - that's quite a story to throw in the middle of this thread!
