So I had my amp (previously threaded here) on for 1-2 hours and then it made a pop and started humming loudly, irresepctive of any settings, etc.

I notice:

A) the rectifier tube glows bright red and is super hot
B) the can-cap is also super hot

Any ideas? Seems like something shorted out

Hi K; seems like it.

You need to replace the can cap:

You need to replace the 7591 cathode (bias) resistor:

Unless you can confirm that they haven't drifted out of tolerance, replace the power resistors. If they aren't gone now, they will be in the future.

1k/10W click resistors/wirewound power/see drop down menu
22k/1W click resistors/metal oxide 1W/see drop down menu
You need a 3-wire power cord: AES part # S-W125
You need to replace the electrolytic cathode resistor bypass caps
100uf/25V on front/preamp half of the 6SL7 tube
100uf/25V on the phase inverter/driver and
20uf/25v in parallel with the output tubes' cathode / bias resistor
