After 6 weeks I got my '67 D40 back.
1) Neck re-set
2) Cracks repaired
3) New strings
4) And after being featured in a magazine,I was advised to forego any electronics install,
so as not to depreciate the value of this all original instrument. I agreed.

Joe Riggio,of Guitar Service Repair,Tacoma, told me this would quickly become my 'favorite acoustic'.
He stated that its' current sound/playability is only something that a vintage Guild could produce.
Within the first few minutes I understood what he meant.
It is easily the best guitar I have ever played...sound,playability,tone,responsiveness,

"I am baffled as to HOW a guitar can leave home sounding so sad and come back feeling soooooo blue !
It just cries out to me every time I walk into the living room and glance up at the wall where it rests...
" Ooooh,play me please, Mr. Smith,please ! "

That's wonderful.

I kinda sometimes think (since our guitars will likely outlive US, if they are cared for) that we are just the temporary curators of the world's future treasures.

I played archtops for quite awhile because they rarely need resets, but finally bit the bullet and realized a D40's sound is "worth it," when it comes to (sometimes) the inevitable maintainance.

Good on ya!

Hi,if I missed a previous thread re:this guitar needing a reset ,sorry.I have a 66 D-40 which I've raved about on these pages before. My questions involve what finally made you go for the reset? My saddle is almost down to nothing but I've still got plenty of volume, clarity of tone, and perfect intonation all the way up the fretboard.Guess what I want to know is,what were your problems prior to the work being done and could you elaborate as to the changes in sound, playability, etc post reset? Thanks in advance

HI Strummer, I suspect you didn't notice this thread about 2-1/2 years old, he may not realize it got "resurrected" recently. You might get quicker results if you send him a pm.
