A strange compulsion gripped me ...

And now a used Victoria Trem de la Trem is on the way. I've always been curious about the fender big box tweed tremolux, especially given my appreciation for the old Gibson GA-40, which is essentially Gibson's answer to the tremolux. Pretty well covered on the 35 and 40 watt amp front, so curiosity returns to the lower watt variety. I'll post pics when it gets here.

Be interested to hear how you like it. I heard a Tele through a tweed Tremolux at a blues jam once and it sounded outstanding!

I don't know how the Victoria sounds, but I own a 1956 Tweed Tremolux 5E9-A which is the model Victoria copied. It is my favorite Fender Tweed amp. The Pro size cabinet really improves the tone, the later >'57 Tremolux doesn't sound as sweet. I don't know why Victoria installs a 15" speaker instead of a 12".

I love the tweed!

Here is my Li'l Dawg Champster Special with a vintage 12" Alnico. The cab is quite deep and the sound is great. One vol, one tone, on/off and standby.

Here's a shot of the back without the panels, so you can see the guts... very simple and dependable.

These are hand-made by Jim Nickelson in Sacramento, a great guy to deal with.

Hey gents. Thanks for the encouraging words. Guildfan ... Not sure why Mark B. put a 15" speaker in that amp, but no doubt it'll work for me. (I love 15" speakers.) If I ever get curious enough to hear it with a 12" alnico, I'll have another baffle built and try a WGS Blackhawk 50, which sounds so fine in my GA40.

Joe, that's a cool looking amp. That big cab no doubt is a great help.

The Victoria should be arriving tomorrow.

In the house, out of the box. Not a scratch. Looks new. Feels new. Back panel never removed kind of new. Shiny bright panel. A few very light little scuffs on the tweed, otherwise showroom.

Stock tubes. NOS 5Y3, 2 x NOS GE 6v6,, 2 x GT 12ax7, 1 x EI 12ay7. I'll certainly be playing some tube games with this amp. But as is, oh man, I'm liking that sound! Big difference in voice between brite and normal. Plenty of volume, hard to believe it's 14 watts. BIG SOUND. Fall down and weep with joy kinda tremelo.

That's two minutes with the Trem de la Trem. What a cool amp!

GE 6v6 tubes are great. They have more of a "magic midrange" than the famous RCA Black Plates. Good for you!

A week in with the new Victoria Trem de la Trem. Some preamp tube swapping, plus an outdoor benefit gig on Saturday.

There is much to like here. In fact, it might be my favorite tweed amp so far. So lively and responsive, can get fat and rude, or quite pretty and warm in the cleans. Loud for 14 watts. We played saturday as a drumless trio ... I don't think drums would have bothered this amp much. Played an old strat, open E and slide, and a partscaster tele with a minihum in the neck. Both sounded remarkable, with that strat slide sound up loud putting me in another zone altogether.

Very cool amp, I am lucky to have it.

You and me both. At home I'll switch back and forth between:

- Allen Encore head, 1x15 cab
- Victoria Trem de la Trem 1x15
- Fender brownface pro 1x15

No such thing, as too much of a good thing!
