"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." - Hunter S. Thompson

“(in reference to Kenny G’s overdubbing of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World") ‘When Kenny G decided that it was appropriate for him to defile the music of the man (Louis Armstrong) who is probably the greatest jazz musician that has ever lived by spewing his lame-ass, jive, pseudo bluesy, out-of-tune, noodling, wimped out, f*!#*d up playing all over one of the great Louis’ tracks (even one of his lesser ones), he did something that I would not have imagined possible" -Pat Methany

“And if I ever DO see [Kenny G] anywhere, at any function — he WILL get a piece of my mind, and maybe a guitar wrapped around his head" -Pat Methany

You can't possibly hear the last movement of Beethoven's Seventh and go slow. ~Oscar Levant, explaining his way out of a speeding ticket

“Women and rhythm-section first!" -Jaco Pastorius

When asked about how much really goes into recording one of his albums Tom Petty quipped, "It's rock n' roll man. It's not supposed to be that good."

When asked about his latest album and how long it took to produce it John Cougar Mellencamp replied, "An album is never finished. It's abandoned."

Not to defend what is indefensible, but I am reminded of an interesting little experiment. Bassist Ron Carter, who started out with classical training, revisited his classical roots and recorded an album where he is improvising over several classical compositions. I seem to recall that Bach's Brandenburg Concerto, #3 was the most interesting track and will note that the "backing tracks" were recorded specifically for this adventure.

Gary Willis (bass player Tribal Tek) commenting on Scott Henderson's (guitar player) choice of strings.

"If I had to play D'Addario strings, I'd give up music and take up drums."

Steve Earle in praise of his mentor: “Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.”

Van Zandt, in response: “I’ve met Bob Dylan’s bodyguards, and if Steve Earle thinks he can stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table, he’s sadly mistaken.”

But I play D'Addario strings

So do I

LOL! I play GHS Boomers on my electrics and Martins on my Guild.

I was actually at a Scott Henderson show at The Bottom Line in NYC and Scott was having some real tuning issues that that night. I said, "hey Scott, are those D'Addario strings?" He lowered his head, took a breath and in a dejected tone relied, "yeah." This actually happened. He caught the joke because of the Gary Willis' comment and was a good sport about it.

I buy the 3 pack of D'Addario strings and throw 'em in one of my gig cases so I'll always have extras on hand. They're inexpensive, sound good, and i don't mind breaking up sets. But when I'm changing all the strings at once, it's GHS Boomers.
