You're welcome, Joe. Lots of very solid reasons to have a dash cam rolling these days. Unexpected meteorites are just one of them.

A preliminary report from the Russian Academy of Sciences estimates the fallen meteor weighed approximately 10 tons and was traveling at 33,000 miles per hour. Casualties are being reported with almost 500 people injured by flying glass and other debris.

Again, this was not the predicted pass of 2012 DA14. Scientists have neither found nor reported any connection to 2012 DA14. This is a completely separate event.

Was going to ask if anyone had checked in on our own Russian Guy, but Vadim doesn't live anywhere near Chelyabinsk. It's a 5,932-kilometer, 72-hour drive, according to Google Maps, or about 32 seconds if you're traveling by meteor (that's a guess on the meteor travel time ... I'm no astrophysician).

Gotta admit I do find it a bit unsettling that General Turgidson is the source of this information about a so-called "meteor".
General, have you accounted for the whereabouts of all on-duty Air Force colonels in the last 24 hours?
Should we be saying our prayers?

Chelyabinsk...

Now there is a name have not heard in many years. And most folks I know have never heard it. Here is a link to a documentary put together nearly 20 years ago on one of the best kept (and terrible) secrets ever:

 Those poor people. So sad to see such suffering and struggle......which could have been avoided had proper measures been put in place. Sure puts many a 'problem' into a new perspective.
IU wated about 10 mins of that video, But I'll watch the rest soon. Lessons in there for us all.

The latest news talk about > 1200 injured people. Plus it is freezing cold there (They said -18 degrees Celsius = -0.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and no windows in your home doesn't help...

Well, Dave...I hate to judge before all the facts are in... but it does appear that it was a meteorite.

Main reason for having dash cams in Russia is insurance in dealing with corrupt LEOs, unfortunately very prevalent there. The meteorites are less corrupt.
