WARNING: This is a true story!

When I was growing up in south Louisiana (not that it matters where I grew up), the best meat market in town was owned by two brothers named....Vivian and Beverly! But that's not the funny part.

They kept a big sign in the front window that said:
YOU CAN'T BEAT OUR MEAT! :lol:

There's a hamburger restaurant here in Vancouver, called "Vera's Hamburger Shack". Tagline is "You Can't Beat Vera's Meat."

Now I see that Vera has a couple of outlets in the new section of the Vancouver airport, just in time for the Olympic foofaraw. Somehow, the tagline's not visible out there. Perhaps the airport authority is afraid of offending someone, or perhaps Vera herself is concerned about copyright infringement action from your Louisana friends?

When I lived in Twin Cities there was a retired wrestler, Walter Mayslack, who had a restaurant/bar in Nordeast Minneapolis that served a lunchtime sandwich that probably had a half pound of meat in it. The line would extend up the block even in the winter. He was a big guy as can be imagined, and his servers were close to equally sized women. You had your choice of meat but no other choices they just piled on the toppings which probably added another quarter pound. They did not take well to "hold the pickle, hold the lettuce", it was Mayslack's way or the highway. Anywho....... The restaurant's motto was "Nobody beats Mayslack's meat".
Seems like its a natural for the right business.

The brothers are long gone so Vera has nothing....to feara! :wink:

I like your reference to the "Olympic foofaraw." Perfect description for the whole affair. There are attempts by the local tourism types to get us all excited down here in Bellingham, "the city of subdued excitement." Not gonna happen!
